  • Check your Hornish-Liechty Wedding Invite Date to Determine Sam's Career Path

Well, at least that is what the Indy Star is suggesting.

No Word from Hornish - Indy Star

    No word from Hornish

Sam Hornish Jr. said Thursday that an announcement about his next job will not come this weekend at Nazareth, Pa. Earlier this week, the two-time Indy Racing League champion said he is leaving Panther Racing at the end of the season.

While Hornish has expressed interest in NASCAR, he and fiancée Crystal Liechty set their 2004 summer wedding date after seeing next year's IRL schedule. There also has been no hint from NASCAR teams connected to Hornish.

"That tells me Team Penske," veteran IRL engineer Mitch Davis said. "Roger (Penske) is the only one that can keep a secret in this sport."

Absolutely incredible. Someone on this board actually uses intelligence and logic in speculation of Sam's future in motor racing.
      Good one, MSK!!

Doesn't the captain use a December date for this kind of thing?

Wishful thinking I guess, but if he was going to NASCAR, seems like the rumor mill over there is a lot bigger and more active and wouldn't miss something like this.

Then again, maybe only he knows and maybe he just hasn't said, or even made his mind up yet.

That may be the most truthful statement this month.

I'm just wondering if Hornish is going to race anywhere full-time next year. I just find it hard to believe some WC owner would throw him right in for a full season gig without him racing any Busch or ARCA races. Maybe Penske will run Hornish in multiple IRL, ARCA, Busch, and Nascar races, but none for the full season. I do think we'll still him at IRL races other than Indy no matter what he does. There are a few weeks where the IRL races and NASCAR doesn't. Who knows.

No matter where he ends up, sounds like a honeymoon is out of the question anyway.

IMHO IF he's not with Penske/Rusty than IRLing he will go.

I just don't think he's a hot commodity in Tin Tops.

Makes sense................. DeFerran retires, Hornish takes the seat.

Gil has won the Indianapolis 500, whats left? He also has hit the wall very hard a few too many times. He is not a young man anymore.

I don't think Gil will retire. He still has one year on his Penske deal, just won Indy, is contending for the IRL championship, and is really in the prime of his career - mid 30's I believe.

Now, here's a scenario to mull. Marlboro is out in 2005/2006 so the Captain needs to attract a new sponsor. What better way to entice some new money than to offer arguably the hottest young talent in OW racing? 2004 is prelude to the next two years kind of deal. After next year, both deFerran & Castroneves are free agents.

Maybe Mobil wants a return to Indy Cars. It would be great to see the pegasus on the side pods of an Indy Car something like Jeremy Mayfield's Penske South ride a few years back.

Barring some big offer from F1, I don't think Helio is going anywhere.
