    Would Sam not be a bigger attraction to ALL racing fans if he ran selected CUP races along with the regular IRL schedule? The CUP fans would learn his name and likely those who learn to like him would tune in to/ attend IRL races.

    So, with Penzoil leaving CUP, I can see someone like Childress picking up Penzoil, starting a strong team and running Sam in the IRL and taking the yellow and black car to Daytona, Bristol, Brickyard etc...This gives them a donimate (???) racer in the IRL and a star in the best attended/ rated CUP races...AND THE CUP budget for Sam is MUCH lower than the current Cup budget for the whole year.

    All this being said, if Sam ends up running CUP with Indy as a one-off the IRL is in bigger trouble than I thought.

    After this year Sam can say goodbye to the #4. Sad!
    I would think by now that this administration would have a clue as to what it takes to get the job done. So, Get-er-done!!!!!

        Isn't Sam from a road racing background?????
        The transformation is complete. The Indy 500 is the only IndyCar race that matters.

            Could it be that Toyota or Honda is grooming this guy for the future of CUP...

            BTW - Didn't Sam race against Sarah in Midgets? If he raced a go-kart, he probably raced an oval.

              Running part time in Nascar Winston Cup won't cut it. Hornish probably wouldn't even be able to qualify for many of the races.

              Winson Cup is where all the big dollars and top drivers are right now and nobody is going to come in as a cherry picker and do anything these days. Too competitive, too many great drivers and mega $ being spent by the regular teams.

                Adam its not really that, its that you will get treated like J Gordon and Ron Fellows, dirt. They hate one offs like Vasser and you will be promptly recked on purpose if they feel u have done them an ounce of harm and Nascar wont do a thing.

                    Adam and Dizz, do you honestly think that RCR would put anything less than a top quality ride under Sam. If so, you don't know much about Richard Childress!!!

                      Eh, if Sam wants to run one of the sideshow road courses I guess he'd have a shot, but how'd old Pruett do when it came to running on the ovals? Btw, The road races in Nascar are jokes in case you didn't know. Let's see old Scotty get a second at a big oval race and then you'd have a point.

                      The level of competition is so much higher in Cup that to sit around here and think Hornish (or anyone) esle is going to make an impact as a part timer is so crazy, I can't believe any informed fan would seriously consider the idea. You got the best teams and the best drivers in the US going at it week in week out in Cup and it's hard enough for the regulars to keep up and honestly, Sam hasn't exactly set the world on fire in IROC either.

                      Adam and Dizz, do you honestly think that RCR would put anything less than a top quality ride under Sam. If so, you don't know much about Richard Childress!!!
                      First, I think the odds of Childress starting an IRL team are slim and there is no way Sam is going to be driving in the IRL for start up operation (even a Childress team.) Second, yes even extra DEI and Childress cars go home on the trailer these days in Cup as happened to John Andretti a week or two ago. It took Smoke a season in Busch to get adapted to the cars and even his first full time Cup season was rough at times and that's a guy with the knack for driving anything on wheels. (something Sam hasn't proved. )

                        I believe he raced against both Sarah and Danica in karts, not midgets.
                        One driver's "fuel strategy" is another driver's "speed up or we will park you!"
