  • Massive power outages! What will become of this weekends racing?

They say that power won't be restored in Michigan for almost three days. Is there anyone in the Cincinnati/Northern KY area with power who can tell us if everything is ok there?

I'm in a very quirky position to observe what's going on near Cleveland. My house, 25 miles south of Cleveland, is sitting right on the dividing line between those with power and those without. Obviously, we have power but just 1/4 mile north of me all the way to Lake Erie is pitch black. They're talking about 12-24 hours, if all goes well, before power may be restored to these areas.

Not sure about Cinci, I heard that they were okay initially, that the outage was only sporadic south of Cleveland. I guess Columbus has some patches without power. Weird.

If they can't get the power back on everyone will have to watch TV by candle light!

              Lotsa great posts.

I can't imagine what some of these people are going to do in NYC or other towns. No ATMs, no banks, nobody accepting credit cards, taxis going for 100X their normal rate, hotels closing their doors, restaurants & grocery stores closing their doors...

              Dayum.

I don't know about a "COLEMAN gas powered TV", but how about a gasoline powered blender?

Just a BTW, but for those who don't know, one of the first things that either go empty or are shut down are ATM's

Michigan is in the Dark in the southern parts of the state all the way over to Hillsdale...........looks like this includes MIS. Betcha they procure massive power generators so the race can go on.

Man, it would be a shame if the power wasn't on for the big Michigan Nascar race this week. It sort of reminds me of that episode of The Simpsons where the TVs stopped working and everyone actually went outside and did things. But in this scenario, all of the "race fans" ended up watching the IRL race at Kentucky and found it much more enjoyable than any of the fender races. Nascar ratings go in the toilet as millions of fans tune out the stock cars and tune in the REAL race cars. Jeff Gordon, now pennyless, finally hops into the car he was made to race and turns his first laps in an IndyCar. In a panic, Nascar digs Dale Earnhardt's body up from the grave and puts him on display. However, his corpse comes to life and immediatly hops into an IndyCar to enjoy a one-of-a-kind driving sensation. Aliens from another planet who have been monitoring our planet for actual signs of intelligence finally decide to reveal themselves to us....and then the power comes back on at Michigan! Crap. Nascar's event goes on without a hitch and open-wheel racing is all but forgotten. Oh well.

                            Mackie,

I went to the Cincinnati Enquierer page and they said nothing about any power problems in the area. Hopefully no news in good news. You can go to www.700wlw.com and stream their radio. They give a lot of news updates.

Sparta is basically one county North of me, and I have had no power interruptions.

That said, I will be really upset if my race tape is interrupted by taped coverage of the President digging Kim-Chee pits in Korea. That is all most stations here were showing at Noon today (the Partner, in particular)..
