  • Chevy talking to other teams

The Indy star quotes Joe Negri as saying that Chevy was talking to several teams in another series. The Star speculates that it is Walker, Haas, and Patrick.

Interesting. Looks like those that said Barnhart was doing the right thing for the good of the series by granting Chevy a change may have been more correct than they had thought.

I hope those guys come over and run the bowtie. It would be especially interesting to see Haas do it, considering his relationship with Toyota.

Criticize Chevy however you want, I think they've figured out how to compete with Honda and Toyota beyond just horsepower. Other than Walker, that would be a couple of strong teams.

Good 'ol CART tactics are alive and well in the IRL.

A couple of years ago, this was the kind of thing that IRL fans hated about CART. My how things have changed.
"IRL" ... what IS that anyway?

Unless, the whole program was paid for by Chevy, why would any new team or existing team invest their their effort in Chevy next year or beyond??

The people at GM Racing have worked hard throughout the season to fix what was wrong. When it became evident that it couldn't be fixed...
At some point this new Gen IV engine will need some fixin too inorder to keep up with whatever gains Honda and Toyota make over time during the lifecycle.

Like that Honda commercial, did the Gen IV roll into the garage and all of a sudden, all these light bulbs popped up in their heads?

Yep Cam, now it's good news that jerks like Haas and Patrick might be running in the IRL, while thier long time teams probably get the shaft. Whooda thunk it.

Personally, I'd rather that bunch stay as far away from the IRL as possible.

CamKing, c'mon, Chevy's marketting that engine. Now would it be a good idea to leave out the best prospects?

I think the negativity is overshadowing the sensibility somewhat.

The people who want Haas and Patrick or whom ever from CART are for the most part cross over fans. I think die hard, long-time IRL fan's really would rather not see them come over.

Hey Chevy, get our beloved IRL driver's whom are unemployed back in the game 1st!

Exactly, King. Walker, Haas, and Patrick used to be the Devil around here. Now, the sheep are thrilled...

                  Bzzzz. Wrong answer.

The only thing I really hated about CART was the fact that a Honda for one team wasn't a Honda for another. If the IRL can enforce and keep all the engines from a MFG the same for every team that uses it, then I am fine with it.

Not me. I don't care much about any of the teams in CART. I would much rather see Chevy help to expand their one car teams to two car teams.

Didn't Walker already have an IRL program he ran with Sarah Fisher?

How about a fixed cost on engines, all manufacurers must be able to supply the entire field and no contracts on engines. That way if Chevy is the hot engine, you get a chevy, if Honda has made a leap, you get a Honda for the next race. Everybody gets the same engine from the manufacturers. If Hornish has a personal services contract with Chevy he has the option of stick it out with them, but no guarentee.

Oldschool hits that nail on the head.

Chevy needs to get their priorities straight. And I'm a long time diehard Chevy fan. But they need to in the following order.
                            1. Get all of their existing IRL teams up to par.
                            2. See if they can get some new talented short trackers into the leaque with solidly backed teams.
                            3. Try to get some of the T&H teams to change.
                            4. Try to get Haas, Patrick and other CART teams. No, scratch number 4. That doesn't need to be done by Chevy or anyone else. Who needs them!
Some people will do nearly anything in order to be able to not do anything.

Put King's Mug on Mt. Racemore with Slinger (only need to two more to fill the original field (then we may expand to eleven rows of three).

Sorry, but I'd rather see Speedway, Menard, Jones, Smith, and Roush, etc, as after builders than a lease no one can touch.

You know no special parts that a non-factory team cannot get for three more races (remember the four-time champ).

What irks me (maybe its too soon for the truth), DW was a 16-oval WIN specialist, yet the vast majority those boohooing for him, hardcarders & fans, alike are the same ones trying to kill anything with more than 9 deg banking & 4 corners, where Dan ultimately made his home...
