  • Stay off the streets -- AE

Auto Extremist begs the IRL to stay off street courses -- and gets the impression that's just what the league will do.

I like the picture of the model at the top of the page. Nice opinion piece. Road Races would be fine for the IRL. Street Courses would be a joke--unless they did it in my neighborhood where I could watch for free.

I would think that Tony George and his buddies at ISC would be philosophically oppsed to street courses. After all, if street racing is a valid alternative to track racing, why would you need to invest hundreds of millions in tracks?

NSSN did a VERY good piece in the Spring on the long term validity of street course racing.

Basically, in the US you have Long Beach, and THAT'S IT!!! None of the other races being run have been sustainable over any kind of period.

The street races basically just keep moving from town to town based on which city will front the money. All it takes is a slight change of mayoral/city council support, and GOODBYE race. The races are rarely profitable on their own, so they require gov't support. Right now, that's hard to come up with.

For a minute I thought this topic was about the Martians invading. Here's my only question. Would Cleveland be considered a street race since it is really not a permanent racing facility? I would just like somebody to race there, because it's an easy 30 minute drive from my house

rr would be OK with me but not street courses, but I guess they'd take Long Beach. Cleveland is its own thing and I'd like to see the League race there.

Again..This is where the conflict is for CART. CART and the Promoters make money on the street parades because people show up to party!!...Not really watch the race.... because the racing is lame(and the drivers know it). So, knowone watchs it on TV because the racing is lame. Advertisers don't buy TV spots because knowone watches it. Race teams don't get sponsorship because knowone watches it....See the domino effect here.

The only winners of street races are Promoters/Cart...And if you have no teams left...Then everyone is down and out!!!
                Zoooooooooooom!

                  Beat me to it, Howard.

No way will the IRL road race and not street race.

...and the hits just keep on comin'

Sadly, regarding road-courses vs. street-courses, I have to agree that there won't be one without the other.

                      They might bring them.

Dosn't mean i will support them.

I didn't when there was no IRL. I still won't.
It's terrible racing. Yeah, i know, jmo.
