  • USAC Silver Crown to go RR in 2004

Just read this article that said..... USAC was sending a directive out to all chassis builders to do an evaluation on setting the SilverCrown cars up to do road racing in 2004. Should be interesting. Now we will see some real driving.

I've got sources. I used to know a T-Shirt vendor at the Phoenix track.

Looks like IndyCar and USAC are growing/moving foward together. USAC and IndyCar at Road America and Laguna Seca in 2005 ------ Who would have thought those headlines were even possible one year ago? Not me, that's for sure.
The transformation is complete. The Indy 500 is the only IndyCar race that matters.

              Bingo!

OBTW, Rodger Ward once won a road race over sports cars at Lime Rock Park in a midget!

I get an error, too. I think somebody was having a bit of fun... if you can call a Silver Crown car on a road course funny.

                    what a well written article!

Gives me flashbacks of Jud Larson hustling ol' Basement Bessie through the south end of the IRP complex while Norm Hall flips his roadster in the background.

Rodger won the "run what you brung" Lime Rock race in Ken Brenn's ancient midget and then proceeded to actually make the USGP at Sebring in a midget he and Watson had modified and tested on IRP's roadcourse.

Regarding Ward winning in that midget. What was more remarkable was that the midget first appeared on a race track on Sep 30, 1947, almost 12 years before that Lime Rock race.

Unfortunately, that midget that "raced" at Sebring, in the USGP was pretty much outclassed by the GP cars. Note: There was also a "Formula Libra" race at Watkins Glen in, I believe Oct of '69. Quite a few midgets were in that one too. Problem: They did not figure that Stirling Moss would be there with his Cooper Climax. My brother said it was pretty funny watching Moss pass the midgets, on the inside, in a turn, in the rain/snow, and WAVE to the drivers as he passed them. As for the Lime Rock race, I have some 8mm films of that race that I took. Someday, I will get them transferred over to tape.
