  • RPM2nite Reports 2 Gen IV

According to RPM2Nite there will 2 Gen IVs racing at Gateway. This is contrary to what was previously reported..... Who knows the truth?

...this doesn't suprise me if true.

Personally, I've been wondering just 'how' Panther, Chevy or IMS is going to ensure that Hornish has one from here on out.

If Sam has one @ Gateway, he'll have to pull a fast one on the IRL (no pun intended!)

According to their whole 'trying to make this as fair as possible' thing, the IRL was only going to let one driver at a time have the Gen IV until all drivers have one.
      - Make a note of the word 'Gobbly-gook'. I like it and I want to use it more often in conversation.

        ...agreed.

BUT as I stated above, I just don't see 'how' Hornish won't have one at Gateway. And now having a rumor such as this only helps to fuel my thinking here.

Maybe they are misunderstanding the roll our as I did. Originally it sounded as if Panther would get one and then , in ADDITON to Panther the next in the point standings would get one also. Then it sounded as if they are going to pass it around. maybe RPM is confused also. If two have it at Gateway, then everybody should have it at Gateway.

I think the only fair thing to do is to let Hornish have the GenIVd and require the rest of the field to use rebuilt 2001 Oldsmobile engines.

This may cause a little up-roar being I've been a staunch IRL supporter from the beginning.

BUT technically, if everyone can't have one, then none should have one, IMO.

This is what chapped my @ss with CART,....the Chevy A & Chevy B motors and who got what as an example.

This was also the stuff that in the beginning the IRL was against.

If there is a second engine at Gateway, shouldn't it go to the #3 Chevy driver in points?

I believe we can rest assured that will be the case.

I was under the impression Sam now has it, Buddy was getting it for Gateway, and then everyone for Kentucky.

Needless to say, looking forward to Kentucky!

I believe the 3rd place Chevy is Buhl. He's one point ahead of Buddy Lazier. No offense to Buhl - well, maybe it is - but I think it is safe to say his day has passed and I doubt the additional power will have much of an impact on his finishing position.

This will be a tricky one for Chevy and the League, though. If they pass over Buhl and somehow give the engine to Sam, it will not sit well. If I were them, I'd be working nights and weekends to give everybody at least one engine for the race and then make sure Sam has qualifiers and spares.

According to Negri at the Michigan race, Sam will be running the Gen III at Gateway, but they are continuing to work on that engine and make it better for all the teams still using it.

Only B. Rice will have the Gen IV at Gateway..

Lets not be so quick to announce Buhl's demise... Lets see first what happens with Gen IV power... perhaps your right but any comaprison without a level playing field is premature.

                            Jim,

The teams need to know TODAY if they are going to get a different engine for Gateway. Switching from the Gen 3 to the Gen 4 is not like swapping out your Gaerte for a Shaver. (As much as I wish it were).

So, if you gave everyone one engine, and it had a problem, that team would need to use a different engine AND a different car the rest of the weekend.

I was confused when that release first came out at Nashville, and got clarification from the IRL. Unless something has drastically changed, then it's ONE Gen IV at Gateway, and that goes to Buddy Rice.

I would think that after seeing Robin Miller on RPM all this time, you would know that just because something is on RPM doesn't make it true. Looks like their editorial staff didn't do much of a job on Kernan's script, either.
