Exactly - 24 Hours of Indy (of 12 hours, whatever). It's less about spectators (i.e.: diluting the halllowed grounds) and more about supporting sports car teams and constuctors (ultimately enhancing Indy).
An American LeMans race woudl be cool! Have that thake the date of the USGP! And if the IMS RC as the finale for the IRL car have that as a double header Lemans on SAturday and the IRL race on Sunday!

yeah...after seeing F1, Juan Pablo looked pretty sluggish in the 24 during "tradin' paint". That cured me of any desire to see the cabs on the road course.
Well said Indy Red. I love the Indy 500 with a passion. I get that funny feeling everytime I go by the speedway. The Indianapois Motor Speedway is truly the "racing capital of the world". Although I do not agree with all the traditionalist who don't want to see other events at the track. I would love to see another IndyCar race at the speedway in September, but on the oval, not the gran prix course. The Indycars are no where near as technologically advanced as the F1 cars and if you were to see the IndyCars on the same track as F1 it would be similar to NASCAR on the oval: SLOW. Run a 400 miler under the lights in the fall and put the stock cars on the road course. I would love to go to all 5 events in one year. WOW!!!!!!!!

I’ve been to every racing event at the speedway since 1968.
I love the Indy 500 there is no race anywhere like it.
I really don’t understand why people think that the 500 should be the only race there.
It was built as a testing track it had various races including balloon races airplane races and various length auto races and it was used as an airport in the war.
Churchill Downs has races all year and several on Derby Day but
there is only one KY Derby
Same is true at Daytona
Also the Rose Bowl
Why would someone put forth a enormous investment and get returns one race a year.
Sure the BY 400 is a good race but it’s not the 500 neither is the USGP but it’s nice to have them.
I personally would like to see endurance racing, bikes etc.
If you want The 500 the only event just attend that one event only,
but people you need to look at things rationally if they race
at 16th and Georgetown 365 days a year
there will be still only one Indianapolis 500
