Milwaukee weekend taking shape in 2004!!!!!

Got a race weekend at the end of each summer month... lots of racing for the Wisconsin race fan.

And i think, unless there is a date move for the WI State Fair, that the IRL race will miss the first day of the fair by about 4 days.

...here's the thing though, the current contract between the IRL and Texas Motor Speedway is that TMS get's to have the race 'immeadiately' after the '500' and that they(TMS) have the season-ending race(and also hope it's a championship-deciding race).

While a traditionalist could argue that Milwaukee should get the post-Indy race, I feel TMS has more than earned the right to hold that date.

Now that is a weekend of racing.

I have some concerns with the midget/sprint car counts but the racing should be fantastic and just the chance to see the Silver Crown cars run one of their historic venues makes it worth the trip.

Michigan should be held Aug. 1st, which is actually not a huge change. The Brickyard 400 is tenatively scheduled for Aug. 8th. Why, because the BY400 is supposed to be the first Sunday after the first Saturday in August (in other words, first full-weekend in Aug.) Since they switched it to Sunday, it allowes it to be held on the 8th, and can't be on the 1st anymore.

Toss enough money in the purse and they'll come out.

They could (should?) have USAC tripleheaders paired with IRL shows at Phoenix, Nazareth, and Milwaukee.

Hope they don't leave the IPS guys out - they need every chance they can get on flat ovals.

what I was referring to 'wrench is the engine costs that have had a chilling effect on the midget car counts. Milwaukee would place huge importance on the engine package and unless the payoff was seriously backloaded I would imagine that many would find it easier to race where the big dogs weren't .

That and the last few USAC sprint races on pavement I've attended had fields that were high on quality but low on quantity. Great for a half mile but kinda sparse for a mile.

One way or the other I'll probably be there.

Incidentally, the "AJ Foyt Classic" was the earlier event, and IIRC, it was a stop on the ARTGO late model tour.

At the Michigan Indy 400 the tentative date given for 2004 was August 1, that is the same date listed for the NEXTEL Cup race at Pocono so yes the Brickyard 400 would be August 8.

The one article linked previously had the ASA stock cars as a Wisconsin State fair possibility and the IRL being July 25.
