It's a wash. Which is good.

I think the NASCAR drivers are more respectful in general, not just in this example. It's a southern culture thing. I would not read too much into it.

        I lean TD's way.

The Cup driver is either older an can remember the grand old lady better, or the bulk of the youth grew up in her shadow.

I would guess the IRL driver is more familar with Senna than Sneva, though both could be referred to as the Gas Man.

What irks me (maybe its too soon for the truth), DW was a 16-oval WIN specialist, yet the vast majority those boohooing for him, hardcarders & fans, alike are the same ones trying to kill anything with more than 9 deg banking & 4 corners, where Dan ultimately made his home...

            I'm with you Truthie

I think it has a lot to do with the fact that most-all are from the little tracks across the country and that "Indy" -up until the last 15 years- was a destination point and so was revered throughout the generations.
Thank goodness it once again is becoming possible for this to happen with NASCAR as the vehicle.

Glad to hear, the nascar drivers are respecting the most prestigious track in the world.

                  No question about it, Truthy.

Not sure which of group drivers do....But I think Indy 500 fans have more respect for the place than anyone.....

Depends on which IRL drivers you ask would be my guess, and if they were asked while running in the IRL.

I probably agree with TD although it think it could be painting with a broad brush.

I think that the ones that consider NASCAR their ultimate career choice tend to have great respect for the hallowed ground we love. I think the same holds true for the ones that consider the top echelon of open wheel recing their choice i.e. the IRL.

Ok - so who has the least respect for IMS - I'd vote for F1 drivers.

Ask those who have scattered parts of their body and much of their lives living at the track in MAY. It's a completely different, more sincere respect.

                              i.e.

                              AJ Foyt vs. Dale Earnhardt

                              Mark Dismore vs. Kyle Petty

                              Lloyd Ruby vs. Mark Martin

Apples and Oranges if you ask me.

Would Stan Fox have a greater respect than Kurt Busch...you bet your boots. Would Busch admit it...he!! no. My history at the Speedway is limited...the old timeres here would have better comparisons.

                              I haven't even mentioned the Bettenhausens...oh, now I have.

"There's no doubt he (Herta) spun on purpose," said Dan Wheldon, …one of the Andretti Green Racing mechanics confessed he was "ashamed" that his team resorted to those tactics.
