The Cup driver is either older an can remember the grand old lady better, or the bulk of the youth grew up in her shadow.
I would guess the IRL driver is more familar with Senna than Sneva, though both could be referred to as the Gas Man.

What irks me (maybe its too soon for the truth), DW was a 16-oval WIN specialist, yet the vast majority those boohooing for him, hardcarders & fans, alike are the same ones trying to kill anything with more than 9 deg banking & 4 corners, where Dan ultimately made his home...

I'll submit the Nascar drivers do.
I'm with you Truthie
I think it has a lot to do with the fact that most-all are from the little tracks across the country and that "Indy" -up until the last 15 years- was a destination point and so was revered throughout the generations.

"It was actually fun, because you're back fully driving again in these trucks. Ninety percent of the tracks we go to in the IRL, you're flat-out. I was having to lift off the corners some here." - Buddy Rice

I think that the ones that consider NASCAR their ultimate career choice tend to have great respect for the hallowed ground we love. I think the same holds true for the ones that consider the top echelon of open wheel recing their choice i.e. the IRL.
Ask those who have scattered parts of their body and much of their lives living at the track in MAY. It's a completely different, more sincere respect.

AJ Foyt vs. Dale Earnhardt
Mark Dismore vs. Kyle Petty
Lloyd Ruby vs. Mark Martin
Apples and Oranges if you ask me.
Would Stan Fox have a greater respect than Kurt Busch...you bet your boots. Would Busch admit it...he!! no. My history at the Speedway is limited...the old timeres here would have better comparisons.
I haven't even mentioned the Bettenhausens...oh, now I have.
