  • A unique way to popularize the IRL

This will take cooperation on part of the teams and drivers and a network.

EXAMPLE: A reality show like "who wants to marry a Millionaire", or some reality based program that one of the IRL drivers could fit into.

If Helio could be on a show, maybe a few dates with ladies that go with it, it could bring popularity to the driver and the series. "Junkyard wars" is not high-profile enough.

I most likely just hung myself again, but that's ok. It's familiar territory.
Get your head out of your past!!!

Funny, I was just thinking about a show centered around Helio. But this would be part talk show and part motorsports news show. Helio (who, despite his accent, is perfectly understandable, and pretty intelligent to boot) could interview guests from the entertainment biz & from the music world, and there could be live music, but also there'd be serious discussion of events & issues in the motorsports world with experts who aren't Robin Miller.

Obviously never happen, because Roger (and Marlboro and the IRL and others) wouldn't want him to comment on racing issues. It's just so frustrating to see Helio so grossly underused as a marketing tool for the league.

Tank, is there room for 2 on those gallows?

I'd watch it. I don't much care for Tank's idea but I wouldn't hang him for it. However, sf's idea has a lot of appeal. Certainly, the IRL needs to get these drivers in front of the public.
      Proud to be a complainer.

I think most people here know that I am not a huge fan of Penske's. However, I think you are selling him short on not recognizing the potential Helio has off the track. I not only don't think he would object, but he might even encourage it.

OT, when you post only once every 3 weeks or so, try to keep it out of the gutter, OK?

You may just be right, Lucky. It's becoming clear that Ol' Rog is just as interested in the IRL getting increased exposure as Tony George is, and I'm sure that Helio would hold his tongue when he felt like any comments he might make could get him in hot water.

                I'm sorry,

I thought this was another add road courses thread.

What irks me (maybe its too soon for the truth), DW was a 16-oval WIN specialist, yet the vast majority those boohooing for him, hardcarders & fans, alike are the same ones trying to kill anything with more than 9 deg banking & 4 corners, where Dan ultimately made his home...

ABC ought to make a show called "making the team" following the attempts of several short trackers trying to get a ride in the IRL, showing them getting "the" call to try out, taking thier rookie test, following them every week between races adn in the pits on race day.

If a show about arestaurant can make the network this one would be a "no-brainer" that also would attract a male fan base instead of mainly women.

I think that George Mack was on an dating reality show during last season, and may have done another one since.

Free booze at every race. Huge crowds. Drunken, angry crowds, but big crowds.

Maybe the Disney Family O'Channels could sponsor a team, and have a show where they follow them through the season... show folks some of the behind-the-scenes stuff that goes on, etc.

Helio's girlfriend was with him at the autograph session in Jackson, Michigan. He has no need to go on a show for a few dates with a woman that beautiful already by his side.
