  • Indy Car's Not Quite There

Talking to a co-worker today, I asked if he saw the Indy Car race.
He said he thinks they're boring, since all they race is street courses.
I said that's CART, this is the IRL.
    He's like, what's the IRL?
I said they race all ovals, like NASCAR. The finish was .oo24 seconds, that's 9 inches!
He shrugged his shoulders and that was the end of that topic.

(this same guy, however, didn't know about the Houston Texans. And he's a Cowboy fan.)

IRL, I have one word for you: MARKETING!

All the marketing in the world ain't helpin' that guy.

This is another reason why the elimination of the lame CART "product" is important to the development of the IRL.

This type of person is more plentiful than you think.

In October, when they see highlights of the Mexico City "parade", they'll be thinking "this Indycar racing sucks".

Another potential fan put off by a lame imposter of the real Indy Racing League.

Problem with that is the fans continue to show up for the CART weekends.

CART has something going for it the IRL doenst, a solid race support system. Between Barber-Dodge, Atlantics, Trans-Am, FF2000, and a few others they always have SOLID 3 day attendance.

Those Houston Texasicans ... They're trying to split the Texas fans like that .... will probably mean the end of football altogether in Texas. Just because Houston has that nice new stadium there ... who do they think they are?!?! Meanwhile soccer fans rule the roost in Texas ... All because of a greedy boy!!

I had a chance to tour the new Houston stadium a year ago last May while it was under construction. Nice place!!! Gosh and Enron Field downtown is beautiful ... doesn't even look like a stadium from the outside to me, but inside ... man ... what an entertainment facility!!!

This guy's ignorant on A LOT of different subjects. I get along with him, but I wouldn't choose him for a friend. He's kind of annoying.

Have to agree in part with Howard about the self created problems. I think it was half IRL's fault and half CART's fault. CART could have killed the IRL by running it's races and dominating the Indy 500. I am glad that CART was too arrogant to do that, though, or we would've never experienced the great RACING the IRL provides.

My son was watching some college football game on TV last week. I think is was Notre Dame and somebody. It was on ABC, and I really wasn't paying any attention to it, until a commercial came on. Not only did they run an IRL commercial, but then the announcers talked up the upcoming Chicagoland race.

                              I thought it was great.

                              Probably annoyed the fb fans...
