  • Why are all the Bowties on the cars?

If the engines must be paid for, why do the teams place the huge bowtie decals on their cars. I understand Eddie is a development driver for Nphinatee, but why do the Chevy teams do it? Is it a league mandate?
    Natural Born Cynic

What irks me (maybe its too soon for the truth), DW was a 16-oval WIN specialist, yet the vast majority those boohooing for him, hardcarders & fans, alike are the same ones trying to kill anything with more than 9 deg banking & 4 corners, where Dan ultimately made his home...

Gator, it is part of the user agreement between the teams and Chevy. It was mentioned at the Chevy "roll out" PC at Fontana. In order to use the engines there are some things you have to agree to, the bowtie is one of them. These engines aren't "profit centers."

What else do teams have to agree to?

I know that there were photo shoots with all the drivers with the engine and promos made!

Anyone notice how Menard had the bowtie on the car but made it almost the same color as the car?
If the league is not going to shift their stance on the fees I would imagine all of the ovals would start being replaced by "chamber of commerce financially supported" TV infomercials dressed up like a car race for different city centers across the USA.

And Panther and Hemelgarn are considered to be Chevy "factory" teams. They get free use of some Chevy vehicles. I believe that Hornish mentioned Chevy giving him a Silverado to drive.

Normally, I agree with Gator's premise. "Don't run stickers unless you get some return" (Charities excluded, but I think that provides a high ROI in terms of good will). But, Chevy does provide support to the teams (at least some of them) and if you ever want that support yourself, you'd better not tick them off.

What happened to the old propoganda line about GM Motorsports turning a nice profit on supplying short kits to nearly the entire IRL field. You guys weren't shucking us, were you?

If you ran an Olds Aurora engine you got 2 support vehicles to drive (owner & driver), same for Nissan. Cart also picked up on this practice. IMS has been involved and possibly the inovators of this program. Their involvement is based on pace cars, where the IRL's is based on type engine used.

The shot of Sam and the bowtie on the air scoop in USA TODAY last week was enough. I should have sent a copy to Dan Davis!
