I bought a couple headsets from RS a couple years ago and I wish I would have waited until I got to the track.

The models from Racing Electronics are so much lighter and they also block out quite a bit more noise.

I'm not sure if there is anywhere in town to purchase any of these better quality headsets. Buying them over the 'net is probably the only way unless you wait for an event.

How do the prices compare between buying at an event and buying from a website? I assume the web has a lower price. But, if I knew I could get a good deal on raceday I would wait so I could actually tryout the headphones before buying.

I have a headset from Radio Shack and a headset from Racing Electronics. The Radio Shack headset is much better. It blocks out substantially more noise and I honestly don't think its any heavier than the RE set.

The RS set I have is specifically called "Racing Headphones". I don't have a model # on the RE set but it is the kind the teams use. It looks cooler but its the one I make my wife use because I like the RS set better.

That's TD after partying all night before Indy. He was feeling a little rocky that day.

If you really want to look cool, buy these and stick a set of ear buds inside.

I suggest getting the "Over the Head" style, the "Behind the Head" style (like most crewmembers wear) are much much tighter and can be very uncomfortable (IMO).

Your opinion may vary so your best bet is to try on a few different styles(and brands if possible) and choose the one that is right for you.

Try to get ones with 23 to 27db of noise reduction. If they are not rated for noise reduction they are most likely less than 20db.

And most importantly, IMO, spend the extra cash for a model with a volume control on the headset. This is not only more convienent, but also allows for using a splitter with a scanner for multiple headsets and gives each listener individual control or their volume setting.

                        Good Luck

                            I'm pretty happy with these:

                            RaceScan

I think the radio shack headphones are just as good. They also seem to block out more noise. No waiting to get them by mail either!
