  • OT - Mark Twain

since the man is quoted here , I assume you all watched the ken burns doc. on PBS?

    ken burns is , I , I , I don't know.

he is single-handledly preserving the culture of america.

the civil war, baseball, jazz, mark twain.

the stories of mark twain's life are riveting, and when you look at the things he had the courage to write about, one can only scoff at the seemingly endless tragedy he endured.

catch on the rerun if you missed it.
    It's a brand new day.

          Cool. Thanks.

I should go to bed, but instead I'll watch this as long as I can stay awake.

Can you give me a permission slip to go to work late tomorrow?

I'm on it, TD. Your "permission slip" will be personally delivered to your employers by cousin "Vito". Rest assured(on your terms). Enjoy Burns' latest.

I was going to post this this morning. Another excellent program.

I was on the road 'til late yesterday, and I heard on NPR that last night was the broadcast. Sorry I didn't give a heads-up!

              Thanks, nitro!

Someone needs to buy Ken Burns a ticket to the 500 and make sure he swings by the museum, including the basement.

He also needs to talk to A.J.

                And Dick Ralstin.

                And some others.

Plus, he needs to bring a tape recorder.

I AGREE 100% Have alway thought that Ken could do a good job on Indy or even the roots of American Auto Racing.

To Defender- Ken Burns IS intrested in automobiles and speed. Let's hope he puts
something together soon. I can't think of
anyone who can do it better.

                      Favorite Mark Twain Quote:

Traveler(to Mark Twain)- "I'm traveling to
the Holy Land, where I intend to climb Mt
Calvary and shout the Ten Comandments at the
                      top of my lungs"

Mark Twain (to traveler)- "Why don't you just
                      stay home, and keep them?"

If Ken Burns were to handle the history of the 500 the way he handled the history of Jazz, then I'd just as soon he stay away. His approach is great for people with casual interest, but he seldom satisfies the purist. Were he to do Indy, no one would be more frustrated than those of us on TrackForum. It would be as if the history of Indy was all Fisher, Rickenbacker and Wilbur Shaw. The last 15 minutes of the show would be: "And then Tony Hulman bought the track and there were some more races..."

I loved the Civil War series...until I started working for a civil war magazine publisher and discovered that Shelby Foote is NOT the final authority on the Civil War.
