  • "Official Sponsor" Questions

Coors is one of many "Official Sponsors" of the Indy Racing League. http://www.indyracing.com/sponsors/index.php

Coosr Light is now the "Official Beer Sponsor" of the NFL. Watch an NFL game and almost every commercial break includes a Coors Light commercial that has this logo.

Does Coors even have an "Official Beer Sponsor" of the Indy Racing League logo?

Other than the 91 car and the Pit Stop competition at Indy, what else does Coors do to promote the IRL ??

I do realize the the IRL today isn't the same as it was when Coor signed on.
And I also realize that the NFL is the king when it comes to sports marketing.

Yet, I would guess that even casual fans of these sports know the Official Beer of that Sport.

    MLB = Bud
    NASCAR WCup = Bud
NFL = was Bud, but watch 1 game and it's clear that it is now Coors Light

Can the same be said for the IRL's "Official Beer Sponsor"?

A partnership implies that both partners give and get something out of the partnership.

Has the IRL fullfilled its part of the deal?
Have the "Official Sponsors" fullfilled their parts of the deal?

For all I know both answers could be yes, but it would be nice if it were obviuosly yes.

With Toyota and Honda coming in next season, it has been said that they will bring more exposure to the leauge. Considering this, isn't it time for more of the "Official Sponsors" of the IRL to make it known to more than just the diehard IRL fan?

Again, I realize that the IRL has been in a building process, but wouldn't it be nice to see the IRL and its logo being promoted by more of it's partners.

    Input ??

If Coors is kind enough to lend us the "Twins" for a commercial, i wont complain .

I wonder what the official Coors jingle for the IRL would be, any ideas .

If this helps...I have a T-shirt sporting "Coors Light, Official beer of the Indy 500"

I actually think you'll see them (as well as others) pick up there level of sponsorship this next year. As Howard Katz said...."...next year will be the breakout year for the IRL..."

            We'll see c7
            But that's just my opinion!

I don't understand this either. Coors sponsors an Indy 500-winning driver and they get no publicity mileage out of it whatsoever. It's like there's one little part of Coors that maintains the sponsorship and the rest of Coors isn't even aware of it.
A couple of years ago, when they were running the commercials that featured the sports stars, I wrote that they should do a commercial like this:

Shot of camera panning across grandstands. Voice-over says: "He's one of the toughest of his generation. He's a champion of his sport. In 1996, he won the biggest event of his sport -- and he did it with a broken back."

Camera pans back to reveal that the venue is not a baseball or football stadium; it's Indy. A figure stands at the start-finish line, holding a large shiny object. The camera pans in to reveal that it's Buddy Lazier with the Borg-Warner.

Lazier says: "You were expecting Joe Montana?"

Couldn't agree with you more, Dave.

A few years ago when they did the two races at PPIR, I thought that signaled Coors really leveraging the sponsorship that they were doing, but it remained at approximately the same visibility. It was there, but not significantly "big" and obvious.

                Great concept for the commercial!!

I would imagine the eng companies deals will be the start of a new era of "partnerships" between official sponsors and the IRL.

BTW is there a list of all the offical sponsors of the IRL/IMS?
If the league is not going to shift their stance on the fees I would imagine all of the ovals would start being replaced by "chamber of commerce financially supported" TV infomercials dressed up like a car race for different city centers across the USA.
