  • Innocent question on unwanted posts

Why are they sometimes deleted and thus sent immediately into oblivion, and other times closed so that they will fade into oblivion due to lack of replies?

There are many reasons, many are unique to the situation.

We try to keep the discussion going about racing and related subjects.

Anything that violates the user agreement, common bounds of decency, or that gets too personal without some substantive issue (read: "none of our business") is a likely candidate for deletion. That happens only rarely - I know for myself it's less than once a week, usually.

Keep in mind, too, that a thread can be affected by subsequent posts, which can either redeem a bad start or curse a good one.

Since moderation and administration is only at random times, it probably also can seem capricious and random in application. Sorry!

My first ever post was locked upon reciept on 1-27. It ask the question "when is MPH reporting their 01 results, along with some IMHO, humorous speculation regarding 02. Oh well, they are scheduled to report tomorrow.

OK. But, what I meant was: once its a candidate for deletion, what determines whether the "method of removal" is deletion of the thread or closing of the thread?

A basic rule-of-thumb which sometimes gets violated: if a thread is already out of line before doitagain or I get to it, it often gets deleted, but if a thread is just starting to go bad then the padlock goes on.

            Moving this to feedback.
