Why doesn't the IRL end the season, although its too late for this year and 2003, but starting in '04, they should end the season at California. That way, you create the TC (Indy 500, Michigan 500, California 500), give an additional bonus for the TC winner, and more than likely, crown the IRL champ all in the same race. To me, that would make it exciting. Keep Michigan as the last Sat. in July just like it was this year and all those years it was a CART race.

I'd certainly like to see the return of the Triple Crown, or better yet, a Grand Slam of four 500 mile races - and I love to see a return of Pocono in its former glory, baby.
Gimme the big 2K of racing!
Welcome to TF, and please enjoy our archives, baby!

400 miles is plenty long for the other two races, but I am all for special awards connecting races.
I always liked the special Texas 2-Step prize.
I would also like to see a special prize for the driver accumulating the most points in all divisions of the Copper World and the Nazareth Classic (whatever it was called). Encourage guys to run multiple divisions.

Well heck, why not a 500-miler to end the season at Texas? There's your grand slam. Perhaps a Marlboro Challenge-like all-star race also. Invite every winner, polesitter and top 10 points placer from this and the previous year to a sprint format for big bucks on Saturday. That's the way to close out the year!"Thank God for the fortune to be here, to be an American."--Alan Kulwicki, 11/15/92

I too think that the Texas II race should be a 500 mile race. Add that to 500 mile races at Michigan, California, and Indy, and you could have a Grand Slam. Pocono would be another good place to have a 500 mile race, and the IRL could do something similar to the WINSTON NO BULL 5.
An All Star race would be great. Have it on Saturday night before the last Texas race. They could do three lap qualifying with a pit stop on the second lap, then invert the field for the race. Provide a huge bonus for fastest qualifier so there's no sandbagging. Three wide start to a 40 to 50 lap sprint race (as many laps without the need to pit), caution laps don't count, but teams can pit for fuel during yellow without losing track position.

I really like the idea of the all-star
race. I think the above ideas on how the
field should be set are excellent as well.
Heck, take those ideas to someone who might
be able to make them a reality!!!"Freedom, just around the corner from you,
With truth so far off what good would it do?"
