  • Cheever Quote...Your Thoughts?

“My first reaction as a race car driver was to jump out of the car and use the Foyt technique of driver development – grab him and pound some sense into him. But that approach never had a long-lasting effect on me."

    Funny!

    Any thoughts?

Maybe he's cooled down a bit.

It's a classier statement than Tomas saying after the race that he had the line (he didn't), and would do the same thing again in a similar situation. He needs to pull his head out and start listening to Eddie about passing on an oval, or we'll be calling him "wreckter" by the end of the season.

Yessir. His second reaction as he got up could have been, "Holly Toledo, I really shouldn't have done that."

Eddie will calm down, use some sense, talk in a fatherly manner to Tomas and make miriad explanations why he did or did not do things in some fashion of another. Tomas will drive many another day and the passes will be more successful and Eddie will congratulate himself on making a great haul in hiring him.

That's what they've been doing the last few days.

“Instead, we spent two days after the race, some of which were awkward, going through the differences between road racing and oval racing with Tomas. Tomas is very talented, and we expect nothing less than flawless execution from him every weekend. He needs to understand that the races are won in the last 20 laps, not the first three. I hope that we have successfully drilled this into his head.”

I think Eddie's a little more understanding now. But, that was some funny quote!

Next thing Tomas will be saying, "Wreckter?, I hardly knew her."

As a former Foyt driver I am sure Eddie knows all about the inner workings of the "Foyt technique of driver development".
