  • The cool factor for fans of having Verizon as entitlement sponsor

Just a sneak peak at one of the side benefits of having a Fortune 15 tech company as an entitlement sponsor of the series.

What's going to be going on at tracks starting this year and into the future:
As part of its massive Super Bowl sponsorship, Verizon has taken over a good chunk of Manhattan's Bryant Park. We're at the Verizon Power House this morning, a heated oasis in the otherwise frigid city center, where reps are detailing the carrier's LTE Multicast service, which enables transmitting live content directly to a variety of VZ devices using the existing network infrastructure. Unlike basic LTE streaming, however, Multicast allows for an uninterrupted video feed regardless of the number of devices currently using the service in any particular area. We first heard about Verizon's implementation at CES 2013, and it looks like Big Red's planning to flip the switch during the first half of this year, though a pricing model, precise availability and device compatibility haven't been detailed. If you're in NYC this week, however, you'll be able to snag a sneak peek of Multicast running on a Sequans-powered tablet and a Galaxy Note 3. The service is currently live at a demo room in Verizon's Bryant Park booth.

"LTE Multicast is a new opportunity for content owners to develop a customized viewing experience for a mass audience. The technology allows for content to be delivered to multiple devices through a select cell site or a cluster of cell sites. For example, sports leagues could provide additional or exclusive content to their fans who attend live events, enriching their experience at a venue."

I think the development and use of new technology is going to be the biggest asset for the series developing from this sponsorship, not necessarily the money. We have a lot of cool stuff coming in the near future just for us fans.

Good stuff! Looking forward to it, and the IndyCar app for this year.

It's "title sponsor". An "entitlement sponsor" would, I presume, be one designed to attract members of that horrible younger generation? I don't know...

This stuff sounds great, but will it work on my AT&T iPhone?

Will the Indycar app. be free with proof of purchase for both May races at IMS and a bronze badge?

I'm thankful for what Verizon has done, but I'll stick with T-Mobile...much cheaper

I think Verizon should consider opening the IndyCar app to all phones and making the download free for Verizon users. I'd be willing to spring a few $$$ for the app - my company discount is with AT&T.

Same here but instead of T-Mobile I have Page Plus. Page Plus is much cheaper but uses Verizon towers. I can even use a Iphone and the Indycar App.
