Sorry to hearAll roads lead to Indy except for State Road 39 which goes to Martinsville.
"These cars are traveling faster than we can react" Eddie Sachs, race day 1964 (Indianapolis Times).
I could join the "Mile High Club" without ever leaving my home.

This is not the way to end a weekend. Our family had our personal favorites but two drivers were unanimously family favorites; Mario Andretti and Gary Bettenhausen. Gary’s dad was a huge favorite of my mothers so her enthusiasm rubbed off on all of us. When we were at the 1972 Indianapolis 500 we were sure the Bettenhausen curse at Indy would be over. Even when he fell out of the race we thought he would have many other chances to win. He did get a third from all the way from the back row so that wasn’t too shabby.
As great of Indy Car driver he was Gary was an even better sprint car driver. When the USAC Sprints became the “Larry and Gary Show” it was one of the greatest times I ever had as a race fan. Gary and Larry Dickson were such intense rivals and that meant the folks in the stands were going to be treated to some unbelievable racing.
Gary was one of the greatest racers I ever seen and his passing saddens me a great deal.

His Dad was my Dad's friend.
Gary was my friend.
Gary's Dad is gone, my Dad is gone.
Now, my friend is gone.
RIP Racer
Have a GREAT time with your Dad and Brother. Checkers to all.Last edited by Racepix; 03-17-2014, 05:26 PM.Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in one pretty and well preserved piece, but to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, worn out and defiantly shouting "Wow, what a ride!!!". :D
