With the new 2014 F1 cars can we finally stop complaining about the DW12?
When form follows function, it tends to make for a hell of a form. I think these odd designs will grow on people.
"Unfortunately, the business types who now permeate the sport don't share this same gut centered devotion. I can only hope that the truly addicted will prevail, and that the original spirit of open wheel competition will somehow manage to survive and prosper into the future."
-Dr. Stephen Olvey
Someone who knew a thing or two about race cars once said that there is no such thing as an ugly or beautiful race car. There are only those that win and those that lose.

That is only true in a non-spec environment. There is no excuse for an ugly spec car.
Lets not fool ourselves - the ugly look of the new F-1 car is due to "spec" racing - even F-1 is becoming closer and closer to spec as they dictate more and more specific measurements of the cars…..
If they want lower noses, they needed to write a better specification…… I have a hard time seeing how the small male appendage hanging off the front of the new F-1 car will serve the safety purpose envisioned…..
Will we ever tire of the ugly car arguments? It's auto racing, not a beauty contest. The priorities should be safety, competition and speed. If I want to look at cars that are pretty I can go to an auto show. I watch racing for racing, not for the aesthetics. The DW 12 is a race car. The new F1 cars are race cars. A sprint car is a race car. They are all beautiful to watch when in competition. A "pretty" car doesn't make it better.

As someone stated above, I agree under the conditions that it is relatively open competition - once you enter the world of "spec" racing - there is no real excuse for poor aesthetics - or at least not ones that are absolutely absurd such as in the new F-1 car…
