This is a great thing if true. Phish was one of the largest touring groups of the late 90's. Their following was a younger Grateful Dead crowd. Many of those folks have turned into the wealthy yuppie crowd that doesnt have a lot of connection to racing. If I am correct, the idea is to get people interested in the speedway that don't normally watch. Phish would do that.
Phish, Carb Day rock group, and Snake Pit Lounge BPM DJ's would have a large percentage of fans covered. Add in a country act and some RnB groups and they gamut is filled.Round and round we go, where it stops......

I enjoyed some of their music a LOT back in their heydey, and even went to three live shows (that's a mixed bag, as every show is different even night to night).
I'm really not into the culture surrounding them though.
Anyway, they could pack in a massive crowd pretty easily, I'm sure.No weather forecasts are ever guaranteed, even if confidence level is high. Even a 99% probability will miss 1% of the time. That's the best anybody can do when predicting highly complex events.

I think it is a great idea. Make IMS a destination for the whole month of May for all types of crowds. This could bring in alot of money to the coffers of IMS which could in turn be put back into the series in a variety of ways. Miles did say he was stream lining things for IMS and IndyCar to be run more together instead of two seperate entities

Wouldn't their younger than the Dead crowd from 15 years ago now be......hmmm 15 years older, like cruising past middle age? Like any fairly recent band that could be considered, they have a limited appeal, if they haven't grown to be big over time that's why. Where does phish end up on radio? Not oldies, not classic rock, if they're played it's probably the end of the dial alternative station. It's much the same as INDYCAR, yes the small number of fans love it and know where to find it but not being in front of a mainstream audience doesn't allow any room for growth.
I know the plan is to build the 500 and the month of May but if IMS would schedule concert weekends during the year, with a variety of music, MIS has a big country series in July, they would get more use out of the facility."You can't arrest those guys, they're folk heroes"
"They're criminals"
"Well most folk heroes started out as criminals"

Z28, Miles has stated that he wants to use facility more. The Vintage car event in June, Nascar and Sports Cars in July, Moto GP in August, and of course the new Indy GP in the beginning of May with then the 500. Once redevelopment takes hold around IMS in Speedway I can see them doing bigger things inside the track itself. Miles has already spoke of concerts throughout the year to maximize the use of the facility.

Phish's appeal spans several age groups. They are as big with my generation (20-30 year olds) as they are with the dudes that spent their college years in the 90s following them around.
If you want to get an idea of Phish fan culture, google the Phish/Seattle Seahawks/Russell Wilson NFL Film piece.

Is this something tied to Carb Day or racing events at IMS or simply another revenue producing use of the facility?
I am waiting for the kart facility inside turn 3, the little oval added to the back straight for legend cars, a moto x track, Club events on the road course, the resort hotel & parking garage over the south chute stands and more. Think Road America's rental plan on steroids. As predicted they added the vintage races, it's open season on events that they can sell & keep the sales tax. They have the space, the facility, the open dates - why not do big concerts?
I'm an "old guy" - I would go to Phish, I like jam bands and at IMS it would be much better than that traffic jam in Noblesville -
