The Gateway race complex in St. Louis has spent eleven million dollars in upgrading this oval, drag race, and kart facility. They are having a June 14 NASCAR truck race and really want an Indy Car race. This race track is located within five minutes of downtown St. Louis. I hope Indy Car is giving them consideration for a date. This track was NEVER PROMOTED for any event in its thirty year history. With promotion, I honestly believe this track can be a "winner". And the new owner, Francois (sp) can afford the sanction fee.

On topic, Driven was flat out awful. I would agree with the "so bad it's good" crowd if it wasn't for the grating non-stop music during the race sequences (at least that's what I remember of it, Driven was a one-off for me).
Actually, the North Park neighborhood of San Diego, northeast of Downtown San Diego, but very close and on the downwind turn to final approach to Lindbergh Field. Corner of Dwight and Nile, just south of University Ave and a block west of Interstate 805. 9:02 AM, Monday, September 25, 1978. PSA Flight 182. Mid-Air contact with a student Cessna. Everyone died and some on the ground. Multiple houses destroyed.

I am very familiar with this incident as my ex-wife, was a PSA Flight Attendant from 1977 to 1988, then went to United when US Air bought PSA. I was married to her from 1981 to 1989. No divorce. She passed. Sherry. Age 32. I was in Indy when this crash happened and did not know her yet. We met at Indy. Her father was a big fan and owned dragsters at one time in and around San Diego. She was close personal friends with a Flight Attendant named Marla Scavia and another one on that flight but her name now alludes me. She was only at PSA about a year when this crash happened, on a layover in Oakland. She never thought about quitting. She attended several funerals, put her head down, and kept going. She was also there in late 1987 when a man named David Burke, a hostile and newly-terminated US AIR employee (at buy out time) entered the cockpit and shot his ex-boss, a passenger, the pilot and co-pilot, thus plummeting the PSA "Whisper Liner" into a hillside near San Luis Obispo, California, killing everyone. She knew the entire crew.

PSA was her favorite. They were a unique, family-oriented airline, full of fun and had an excellent work environment and culture. Southwest Airlines was originally modeled after them and PSA trained their first flight attendants.

When Sherry and I married, I moved to S.D. and lived in Chula Vista with her at a home her parents owned just off I-805. I kept my apartment in Indy and went back and forth like that for several seasons. The 80's were a great time for Indy Car racing and me. And PSA got me to many places, usually as a connector flight to make it back to the Mid West, often out of Phoenix or Vegas. And I often flew for free.

This incident in San Diego is considered among S.D.'s most horrible events, along with the 2003 Cedar Fire, and 1984 McDonald's Massacre. All three are still talked about around town to this day.

Maybe next time my brother comes into town we'll pick up some of those beers and see just how bad-good it is.

Have you seen the cringe worthy Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Heart's Club Band? That was just awful. I actually felt sorry for the Bee Gees, Peter Frampton, & Earth Wind & Fire. Nobody deserves that.

I'm not capable of drinking that much beer myself, I'd pass out or puke.

I'm sure there are some pretty awful ones out there besides Driven, I was just sick because it made a joke out of Indy cars (ok Cart).

Although it has its moments, "Bela Lugosi Meets A Brooklyn Gorilla" ranks right down there with "Driven".

Agreed. A whole bunch of us left the theatre asking for 2 hours of our life back and $8. And that's biased with the fact that it had Indycars in it. No racing, it would have been unwatchable.

Two of the drivers get into show cars and drive them out of a building and into the city streets. (It was filmed on University Ave., here in Toronto.) No starters is just for starters: not only do these show cars apparently have on-board starters, they also have fully functioning drive trains and are fueled up. If I remember correctly, the drivers don't put on ear plugs or helmets.
The best way to 'enjoy' Driven is to have adult beverages at hand, and try to see how many deviations from reality you can spot. If you are keeping track, you will need a very thick note pad.

Oh, yeah that was the part I actually saw. I thought it was silly that the show cars had engines anyway but completely forgot about no starters. Agreed, though.
