  • Mikhail Aleshin signs for Schmidt... Vautier out

Yup... there we go... I guess this means Vautier is really out. This also means the 2nd seat isn't Sage Karam's. I wonder where the two would go from here?

I'm wondering if this means that Tristan Vautier is out of IndyCar for good now? I know he doesn't have any money but he also didn't exactly perform all that great in 2013... I would like to see him in another season.

I wouldn't mind seeing him get one more shot, but man he had a heckuva chance as a rookie and did nothing with a team that is at worst above average.

The dude seems to have a good attitude: http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/111513

"But I decided to change because I just wanted a new competition with new tracks and a new car."

"I knew the competition is quite strong and it would be hard for me, especially because I've never raced any American circuits."

"It's a big thing to do, but I think I'll be competitive.

"Ovals will be hard, but I'm here to learn and compete for good results."
It's not often you hear euro ladder drivers who haven't driven on ovals before admit before hand that ovals will be a challenge.

They won 2 races and finished 3rd in points, I think they are most certainly above average.

I have to say this is a bit of a shock as it all happened so quickly. Will be interesting to see how Mikhail performs as compared to how Tristan faired this year.

I'm going to guess this guy is bringing a lot of money? With Schmidt losing HP I imagine that was critical

I don't ever think I've heard a driver say otherwise. Fans, yes, but I've never heard a driver coming over saying it will be a breeze.

Correct. Always follow the money, which tells you exactly how much Vautier had.

Didn't Hitokiri say a while ago that Robert Doornbos thought ovals were going to be easy especially after he tested one in an IR07 back in the day?

He may have attracted interest from other teams had his early season pace translated to good results. It's not like Aleshin's racing CV is crap either...

I wouldn't be so sure this is it for Vautier. Coyne has run 2 cars on one pay drivers budget before. Let's say he has a sponsor for Simon, which I think he will get, that pay driver money can run Vautier and Ivan the Terrible.

I know losing HP is bad but Hamilton was saying something along the lines, that what they were being replace with had a greater reach. HP didn't actually have as much as reach as people thought. I'm very badly paraphrasing but I heard it somewhat like this.
I'd rather have 10% of the world interested in the ICS than 50% of US that NASCAR currently has

Hope so. I've always liked Sam, Davy and this team.

At this point, I think Vautier is better off trying to split Indycar and USCC this year, and impress in a part-time ride. That's how Pagenaud got the Schmidt offer to start with, impressive fill-in runs at HVM\D&R.
