  • Firestone is new title sponsor for St Pete race, multi-year deal announced

“Motorsports is an integral part of the Firestone brand marketing efforts and the entitlement sponsorship of the Firestone Grand Prix of St. Petersburg aligns perfectly with our plans,” said Lisa Boggs, director of Bridgestone Americas Motorsports. “Our commitment to the race is a reflection of our longstanding relationship with Green Savoree and the terrific St. Petersburg community and fans. We are proud to have the Firestone name on this outstanding event.”

Oh what a relief. I was worried about this one.

Yea, way to go Firestone! I'll be getting my next from them, once the OEMs go away.
            And don't forget the heat!

Interesting pick up for Firestone taking the sponsorship from Honda. Any thoughts on Firestone taking over IZOD's title sponsorship? Any rumors heard for who will take the series' title?

Boy, what a disappointment for some who thought Honda leaving would kill this race. LOL.

So does any money actually change hands here, or is it factored into the season tire prices?

Firestone was an associate sponsor. This is upping their commitment. And money changes hands. Tire prices to teams are fixed.

Cheerleader hat- Should be a great event as a doubleheader to kick off the season!

On the other- We are relying increasingly on few sponsors to float the series and that is reeeeaaaaly worrisome.

Firestone only sponsored Texas before. For 2014 races we also have Honda, Toyota, Chevrolet\Cadillac, Shell\Pennzoil, Sunoco, Iowa Corn, ABC Supply, GoPro and MAVTV. I'd expect at least one more for the Indy road race, and Miles is implying a title sponsor for the series itself will be announced before the end of this year.

Guess Firestone wanted to counter all the other tire banners that will be up for all the other on track action & brand the main event?
