  • More HP on the way?

Or am I reading too much into Robin's "stay tuned"?:

Q: From your experience, how do the drivers really feel about the "Push to Pass"? I would imagine the more experienced drivers appreciate it, but am really curious as to whether IndyCar has ever considered a system like DRS (Drag Reduction System) used in F1?

    Kenny Ramirez, Corona, Calif.

RM: I think they've accepted it as a necessary gimmick to make street races better (and it's worked) but something new may be coming. Stay tuned.

Oil slick button? Flame-thrower? Fog machine?
    It's a Hoosier thing, you wouldn't understand...

The "button" is pointless and needs to be ditched. If you can't do it with your foot, you can't do it.

On the other hand, if you want a boost knob like the "old days" and want to turn it up for extra oomph, more power to you (literally) but be aware it will cost you in fuel economy.

      There. Problem solved.

Your suggestion is no different than P2P, which gives extra HP and uses more fuel. The button is not pointless. Before IndyCar started using it, the street races were parades intermingled with drivers being punted. Not much actual passing among the spec cars.

I think the button is OK, with them having to manage the amount available. In F1 it should be like that: DRS whenever you want, but a limited amount of it during the race.

I think the push to pass is awesome. It just needs to be more HP. I think someone said it gives you a 7-10% boost in power for a certain 15-20 seconds?

It needs to give 20% boost so you can really make something happen!

If it brings in the street racing people because it is similar to hitting a "NOS" button, then how could it hurt?

Things that make you go "hmm" ...adding NOS.

I kind of like the idea. It would bring a little "Mad Max" to the show. But it has to be controlled by a garden spigot knob on the dash just like the movie.

They're parades because the cars were and still are spec.

And the punting has increased since we put bumpers on the car

IndyCar had a terrible package for street racing while the current one is much closer to something viable to start with.

The thing that makes the spec engine style series tracked push to pass button necessary is the hard limiter and engine mileage rules. Otherwise you get full rich and no limiter as many times as the engine manufacturer thinks you can keep the engine alive for the entire race with (which ultimately amounts to being fairly similar). Turning up and down the boost isn't really a thing you do because the engine is more efficient at higher boost levels and unless it was a USAC stock block max boost hasn't really been high stress for a long time.

Not really, Sonoma and Baltimore were bad but I remember a couple years being so frustrated with races because the drivers were acting like morons on the track.

It seems the rear pods also punish the car that does the hitting a lot more now.

                          Maybe it will be DRS.

Don't forget hub caps that extend with spinning razors ripping the side of the other car.

Yeah, I'm thinking it will be a variation on the DRS system. Track records at Indy..?
