I put this in the raving road course , but I want more people to see this idea
I love that graham and ryan say a more active month of May is a good thing
well,, I suggest we promote our drivers in a more broad way
open with the Indy road course,, as oreo says make it the fastest road course on earth,, speed Indys number one attribute
Then get our top 18 in points from 2013 to practice and run 2 50 milers at the farigrounds,, on a Friday night
then these same 18 run to 50 lap late model stock car races at IRP
then a 50 mile midget race
this would get a lot of attention ,, the one trick pony look is now what the tradition of Indy car is,,original tradition was versatility,,,,
points fund would pay heavily for a new tradition,, "THE KING OF MAY"

then pole day,, then the 500,,,,,,,,, 7 races featuring our best in all ways

have a ticket package that makes it possible to do all,
wait a minute,, I just described the month of May when indycar was king,
I love the sport more than I hate the past,

I would hook up with basketball to market the month of May. A lot of people like basketball. So, you dial them up and get connected. A bit like the Internet, just in front of more people.

all of that would market indycar to the surrounding people of Indianapolis, which needs very little promotion in comparison to the rest of the nation...

You have identified more than one problem. Those18 drivers are already more well known in the Indianapolis area than anywhere else in the country and to the very fans who would be at those other venues, so what is the gain? The races at the Fairgrounds and whatever IRP is called now get no national coverage.

The basketball idea would score about .02% better, do you see how tall most of the drivers are, do any of them appear to be big NBA fans except possibly saying they like the Pacers? The truth would be most would be more interested in World Cup than the NBA.

Without even doing any research I can name two things drivers enjoy that could be used; golf and cycling. Many of them play golf, you need to get them to as many celebrity tournaments around the country as possible. Local sportscasters play in those charity tournaments so it's a good way to network and get their attention. See if you can't find some local athletes retired or active who have any interest in Indycar, ask them for some introductions. Invite the sportscasters to get two seater rides at the nearest venue. Social media is a great tool to exploit. Check on local sportscasters' Twitter and Facebook pages and find out which ones are into cycling for recreation and training. Arrange for the cycling drivers to have a mountain biking day with some fans in various cities and invite the local sportscasters that are into cycling. This creates a way to introduce the drivers to the media people who decide what to cover and helps develop a relationship.

Do both and prior to the closest race coordinate media tours in those cities with the local sportscasters who you have introduced the drivers to. This doesn't instantly add fans, and nothing does, what it does is create more media awareness and potentially attention in places other than area code 317.

There must be other things that drivers enjoy doing away from the track that could be used in the same way. Limiting the outreach to only race fans, especially those in Indiana, is extremely shortsighted and part of what has been holding the series back.
"You can't arrest those guys, they're folk heroes"
        "They're criminals"
"Well most folk heroes started out as criminals"

for the sake of conversation whats wrong with attracting more Midwesterners? it would showcase our drivers quite well and have short trackers finally feeling theres something for them,,

You do a season preview/ media event/ open test at Fontana the second to last weekend of April

            Make sure to run 244

Run LBGP as the season opener last weekend of April

Traditional month of may... Run a 240 Pole lap

            17 races until Labor Day

Finish the season on labor on the ims road coarse

            Crank the boost up 200

Let the teams do any aero they want

            This isn't complicated

Nothing at all is wrong with it, Paper! The sport has lost fans everywhere, so gain them back everywhere! That includes the Midwest. Now, how big are the short tracks in the Midwest, still? Has that held up to the ste of time?

Is this going to coincide with the full rendered LMP cars or with the raised hand of solidarity to our soldiers?

Out of the box thinking should not equate to ideas which are simply bad.

Theres nothing wrong with more mid westerners. But the people going to short track events around Indy probably know about IndyCar and the 500.

So if those very people aren't interested in watching or going to an IndyCar race, having just the drivers infront of them won't appeal to the people who know what they like, and what they like doesnt consist of rear engined open wheeled race cars.

For 95% of the population, it doesn't include race cars period.

                        Yet.
