  • Montoya Evaluating IndyCar Options

From what is in the article, he isnt ruling out Indycar....Or USCR, or DTM, or soapbox, or bobsleds ..... But I think only real opportunity will be USCR. Just don't see him back in IICS ... And don't really want him back
You can be a critical fan without being a Critic... Or can you? Quit your b'tchn and enjoy the racing :D

If he still has any competitive drive left, and if he can fit into the car, why not. He's won races in Indy cars, Formula 1, even the cabs.

So a former Indy 500 winner who couldn't give 2 flips about open wheel racing in America during the IRL/Champ Car days with a built in international fanbase who is idolized by one of the up and comers of the series wouldn't be a positive for you?

Well, I'm not ruling out Indycar either, but what does that mean?

What would be very interesting to see would be Juan Montoya in a competitive team in WEC. He could be the second driver in history to win the true Triple Crown of Motorsport, as he's already got the Indy 500 and Monaco Grand Prix ticked off that list. All he needs is Le Mans.

Of course, I won't mind if he comes back to IndyCar. The more talent the better, and anyone who's been able to win in so many disciplines is clearly talent.

No concrete reeason, just not a driver I ever liked much. Plus, I don't think much of his fan base would follow him anyway

You forgot to emphasize the first time in an IRL car, first time at Indy part.

Perhaps the haters don't want JPM embarassing them. Again.

Since the early days of the IRL, I always wanted to see Montoya, Castroneves, and Franchitti at Indy in the same race. It took long enough to get TK, Helio and Dario together. But it would finally be poetic justice if Montoya came back.

Very good point. I know a few who never forgave him for having not only the temerity to win, but to call out the cars and say his Abuela could drive them.

The dude is batting 1.000 at Indy, why would he want to screw that up?

Chip Ganassi bought Dario back to Indycars so if he thinks it is right then presumably he could do the same with Montoya (the 4th seat ??)

It would be a big name and I would like to see it.

I know that he has not spoken favourably about Indycars when he was a Nascar driver but he didn't speak favourably about F1 either. Lifes too short. Would add to the quality of the field.

The question is whether it would boost Indycars' reputation or lower Montoya's. I suspect it would be seen as him dropping down a division like an aging soccer player in Europe at the end of his career. Sports cars, on the other hand, seem still to have a certain caché where experience is seen as a virtue. So my bet is that that is where he's headed.
