  • Announcement tonight: Kelley Racing 1st Toyota-powered IRL team

There will be an announcement tonight at the Kelley Racing open house that they are the first Toyota-powered IRL team. Toyota top execs Jim Aust and Lee White are in town for the announcement (to take place at 7:00 pm - press release will also go out then). The first Toyota powerplant is expected to be on the dyno this Friday. I'm going to the open house and will post more later about what goes on there...

Janie is this the public open house or just a media one? I got my news from them a few weeks ago that they were going to have a open house and I was hoping a annoucement and it on a weekend.

That is probably going to "do a job" on the Delphi sponsorship.

Doesn't Delphi do more than just GM work now?

Delphi was spun away from GM in the same manner that Visteon was spun from ford.

All 3 affiliates for the major networks here in Indy did their 6 o'clock sports live from the open house tonight. Channel 6 (abc) interviewed Greg, Channel 13 (nbc) talked with Scott, and Channel 8 (cbs) just kinda hung around, from what I could tell.

With Knapps recent hiring and Gregs presence there tonight, it's starting to look like Greg might be sticking around after all.

Delphi does supply parts and services to Toyota.

Interesting. This makes Kelley a lame duck Chevy/Ilmor team this year.

What happens if they win a bunch of races, then? Especially Indy? Urgh...

Delphi makes iginition components and electronic systems for Toyota, Honda, BMW, and many others in additon to their traditional GM parts. They are a truly independent spinoff of GM today.
