The epicenter of that thing was about 80 miles offshore from my old USAF Security Service base. It's still there and still in operation, now a Navy post attached to Misawa Air Base. DoD says all personnel are accounted for and no injuries. Saw the photos of Sendai, and was saddened. Spent a lot of time there, and played a few baseball games in the old Sendai Stadium.
