  • Dont want the Lucky Dog? Let 'em know! IndyCar Phone # is...

    317. 492. 6526

I called today and left a voice mail in the PR persons mail box

    I was polite and respectful.

And I told them I hated the idea

He has a Facebook page. https://www.facebook.com/profile.php...6020794&ref=ts

I added him as a friend last night and was accepted within the hour

The amount of negative yet respectful feedback on his Facebook page over the 'Lucky Dog' speaks volumes from the fan's perspective. It's as powerful as it is telling, hard for him to ignore that no matter what his real thoughts are for it. I've been a 'friend' of his for almost a year and have never seen this much posted on his page in such a short period for any one subject.

I suggest that people continue to politely write on Randy's Facebook wall. He has said in the past that he he wants to be accesible to fans. It is clear when you read the messages on his wall that the fans do not want nascar rules coming into indycar.

I agree, but when he goes with the "Lucky Dog" anyway, it will be even moreso that he is spitting in the face of his supporters.

And that is when I un-friend him and go back to watching the Indy 500 and no other races on the schedule

That's exactly my plan. I'll always watch Indy but I I have a lot of options elsewhere that I can get the rest of my racing fix.

I think that complaining about the lucky dog is premature. At least wait and see it in action through indianapolis before deciding. Our starts/restarts are so dry now, and being spot-on is at such a premium that I honestly welcome the new procedure. Remember last year when Rahal and Carpenter were screwed over at Indianapolis and put a lap down? How nice would it have been if they had the lucky dog back then?

Then again, some of you posters will find anything to complain about. The way I see it is that we've tried the "tried and true" way for 15 years now. As you can see from our starts and restarts, it clearly doesn't work as well as it could. At least give this a shot before decrying it.

And some will continue to think that others object simply to be argumentative or against anything the series tries. I believe that's not the case with a lot if not most of the people who have been against the 'Lucky Dog' or any similar rule or action. If you look carefully you'll find a great many knowledgeable and long time fans of the sport have stated reasons for their objections. And as such many if not most don't need to see it action first to know that they won't like it. So it's not a case of many disliking it just to dislike it.

The problem with re-starts isn't going to be resolved with a gimmicky rule copied from another race series. Especially a rule that has turned-off many of that series long-time fans. One of the chief problems with re-starts is allowing the Pace Car to exit the track in turn 1, while leaving the leader to 'police' the field and set the pace & place for accelerating at the re-start. Leave the Pace Car on the track until the exit of turn 4 with the cars not allowed to accelerate until after the Pace Car exits the track and with the green flag in plain sight. I'll almost guarantee the re-starts will improve significantly & immediately.
