  • Panther 2-seater promo in Washington DC

Looks like Panther and the National Guard are having some fun with a promotional event in Downtown D.C.

    From Twitter,
    - Up early this am catching a flight to Washington DC for the @nationalguard Youth ChalleNGe Champions Gala. Always an amazing event.
    - Rumor has it @JRHildebrand is driving the 100,000th ChalleNGe graduate from our hotel to the Capital in the IndyCar two-seater.
    - There is currently an IndyCar driving through the downtown streets of Washington DC .... And people do not know what to think.

Maybe an opportunity to broach topic of a "street oval" race around the National Mall

Here's my "Washington street course" concept:

Some fans claim one series or another runs "real race cars." What's everybody else running, fake race cars?

INDYCAR - NOW IZODIER THAN EVER!

my blog ... I'm not a big fat woodchuck, I'm THE big fat woodchuck.

Washington, much like New York, is a city that cannot shut down like that. Pennsylvania Ave. in front of the White House is cobblestone too. But it would be badass if it was strictly around the National Mall. But too much security risk.

That'd go straight through my campus. Would be insane, though I'd have to explain to the other 99% of the students at GWU what IndyCar actually is.

A course on the roads directly around the mall and Lincoln Memorial was what I had in mind. As for not able to shut down a road, tell that to the presidential motorcade or the inauguration parade.

                JR and Jr.

Are you on crack? (I ask that in the nicest possible manner )
You do realize that the course you laid out is 9.6 miles long?
You do realize that some of the "roads" you chose are not really roads?
You ever driven these roads? They are not wide enough, smooth enough, or safe enough to shut down or obstruct for months required to setup or tear down a course.

Not only that, but my wife would just love that interruption since she drive right through that area every day on her way to and from work. Its bad enough when everyone come to town to see the Cherry blossoms, or when some group needs/wants to have a rally, so we're kinda used to brief changes.

A slight difference in closing down the roads for the President (an hour or so interruption) or even an "event" at the mall.

It's purely conceptual. I'd never expect it to be approved for an actual race.

For a purely conceptional (and realistic in terms of road width and surfaces) layout, I'd suggest a trip around the Lincoln Memorial to the Washington Monument using Constitution Ave, Independence Ave, and 15th Street. Its about 2.5 miles long and would have about a 3/4 mile straightaway on Constitution Ave.

It would still be an impossible thing to pull off in the center of the Mall area. Too many visitors and would impact too many roads for too long.

Could you work some more turns in? For some reason, there's only about 35 right now, and I'd really like to hear about "a crash in Turn 40" on an IICS broadcast at some point.
