  • Draft Alex Zanardi for Vegas

How do they get him in a car for a chance at the 5 million.

Simply would be the best most compelling story not only in racing but in all of sports for the year.
You cannot wrangle chaos. You can only try to plan for it.

Simply unrealistic IMO. Zanardi is lucky to be alive after crashing in a good race car. I couldn't stomach seeing him get into a Dallara.

If the two seater was a side-by-side configuration rather than tandem they could probably shoehorn Super Tex into it. THAT might be interesting - no? TGBB can amend the rules for one race right? LOL

Some of these wild ideas are cracking me up.

They are annoying me. Does nobody read the press releases or articles????

Why is it unrealistic? He got back into a Lola and ran race speed...and he had a great outlook when he said (Paraphrasing)...."What's going to happen? Am I going to break my legs?"

He turns 45 in October and it's been a long time since he's driven an Indycar.

I respect you No Fenders, however I feel you hate the current Dallara far too much.

I have no doubt that the Dallara would protect me more in a crash like Zanardi's than the 'good' race car. No disrespect intended for the 2001 CART chassis - it just annoys me when people call the Dallara unsafe, or a cr*pwagon. Have you seen some of the hits drivers have walked away from lately? In terms of brute strength - there's no other open wheel car I'd rather hit the wall at Indy in.

I'm sure some will say that it is a 'back-breaker' or it flies, or whatever but the fact is that it as a chassis has seen more high speed accidents than any other chassis in the history of the sport. And considering this - the number of serious injuries sustained in it is thankfully very low.

              It was a Reynard, btw.

It's unrealistic because it is designed to attract drivers from outside Indy Car that think they are as good or better then the current field. Hence the challenge to come and try and beat them, and win 5 million to do so. It is also unrealistic because the drivers that are going to have a chance of doing this are going to be invited or nominated by an Indy Car panel.

A former champion is not going to get one of these invites because he clearly does not fit the intention of the gimmick!!!:mad::mad:

Then I guess that illiminates the rumors of Michael and Little Al doing it......

It is unrealistic because he does not race cars anymore because of his company interests. He is now a world class wheelchair marathon racer and has said that his only goal for the next years is to train to win the gold in the next Paralympics.

                      A. Its not unrealistic he is still a worldclass athlete and has drive race cars.
                      B. Regardless of RB intent this would be a great story.

Would be incredible, and certainly generate alot of press. But its a pipe dream. If there was even a possibility of it though I would say go for it. They have 5 spots to hit 5 different demographics, they should have as much diversity as possible.

But what reason in hell would Zanardi have to do it? None. Money matters alot less when you almost die at the hand of a racecar.

He belongs in the old timers race with Mario, Al Jr., Michael, Cheever, Arie, etc.
