  • Is this an Indycar?

I found this diecast in my attic.

To be honest, I don't know what it is. It seems to be a Target Chip Ganassi car. However, I could not find out what chassis this is and I'm not sure if it is an Indycar or not. There is no label on the car. Please help! What is it?

No, it's a Benetton F1 car from late 80s made by Bburaggo. With 90s TCGR livery, of course

Diecast makers reusing molds to make other open wheel cars for their mid- to low-end products?

            I AM SHOCKED.

But really, it's very, very expensive to make new molds for these cars at high detail and large scales. When I collected diecasts in the early/mid 90's a ton of IndyCar items were merely F1 stamped cars. Another example is how Racing Champions used the same exact mold for IndyCar/CART/IRL cars from like 93 to 99 or thereabouts.

in the early vasser-zanardi days (not sure exactly what year), target did have 2 items they sold - one was a 1:18 size car, maybe that one and the other was a pretty cool target indycar print. i didn't buy either. i think the car was onyx or racing champions.

I was once avid with those little 1:64 AFX electric racing cars (Tyco, Tomy, etc.), and they usually used F1 models and painted Indy car schemes on them.

Never seen that one and I am a bit of a diecast freak. Looks like a custom to me by the shine and paint ripples.

Ganassi had ERTL, Minichamps, etc produce some great cars ion the 90's...

I've got one of the ERTL 1/18 Ganassi cars (similar to above but with Zanardi's number)...signed by Alex Zanardi after his second CART championship.

BBurago has done this a lot. They have made Lotus 98s, Williams FW08, FW11, Ferraris, Benetton B188 in correct liveries, not correct, not even related or make believe (non existant sponsors, Disney), other racing series.

In the late 70s, they made some huge 1:14 cars that were pretty nice for the time, both of Mario's Lotus 79s -JPS and Martini

Scroll down to the F1 section, it has pictures:
                      And don't forget the heat!

Well, I would keep my diecast if it was an Indycar. However, it is just an F1 car. Furthermore, it is made of plastic and it looks cheap. The diecasts in 11rowsof3´s pictures look much better
