  • A Possible Trend I Hope Owners Do NOT Embrace

When you have a car, put ONE driver in it for the entire season (and hopefully more). Do not have 'oval' specialists or 'twisty' specialists. This is not football. INDYCAR promotes the diversity of the series. If we want to claim we have the most diverse drivers in the world, they need to actually be diverse with regard to course layouts and driving talent.

Oh, crap. You ARE Defender. Welcome back.

I do not understand why you would slight an owner for giving his team the best chance to win. If they are playing to win, it doesn't bother me.

Not a fan of shared drives myself. Probably another sign of current economic realities though.

OK...think about this....if Coyne has to Employ Milka for the oval races to get all her money...and that give the opportunity to HIRE other qualified drivers, than I'm all for it....part time or full time.

i see it happening more and more, with the split titles

a guy like Bourdais would probably not contend for the overall title, but he surely can contend for the Andretti Trophy in a Coyne car

Marshall Pruett interviewed Dale Coyne and asked him why Bourdais was only running the road courses. Dale said that many of the oval races conflicted with the International Le Mans Series races and so Bourdais and Dale were content if he only raced road courses for the '11 season. Who knows what Bourdais (if he ends up in the Indycar Series) well do next year but I'm sure a full season is his priority if he plans to come back. I think Bourdais well do better on the ovals then most people think mostly with he new car formula in 2012 where there well be a more even playing field.

I do agree though Disciple that Indycar shouldn't evolve to a NASCAR like motorsport where there are oval and road course specialist.

I could not agee more. It should be a requirement to receive TEAM funding.

I agree, with the exception of a driver being injured - eg: Conway

I could see this as a possible benefit. If we begin ending up with "specialists" winning the road and oval championships, does it then elevate the overall champion? Do you think it earns the overall champion more respect for being able to do it all, or does it somehow dilute the championship since he can't win the oval or road?

It doesn't bother me, you will be seeing the smaller teams being able to step up by getting drivers in each race that should be in it.

Car counts have gone up along with this trend. There hasn't been a loss of regular participants.

I certainly don't want to see half the field compromised of "platoon" drivers, but if this adds to the car count I'm fine with it. It's seems like we are seeing more talented road racers, I hope in the near future we also see some talented "oval specialists" like Clausen et al.
