  • Live-chat with Alex Tagliani and Tony Cotman this weekend

Normally stay away from self-pub, but just wanted to mention that this weekend on our site, Alex Tagliani, Tony Cotman and Ryan McGee will all be doing live chat sessions. If you're interested in asking them any questions (maybe someone can ask Alex if he prefers "Tag" or "Tags"), then head on over at these various times.

Saturday 4pm ET - Alex Tagliani
Saturday 6pm ET - Ryan McGee
Sunday 10am ET - Tony Cotman

    Happy Racing season everyone!

Thanks it was fun, will look to be doing more in the future. For those who missed it, we just wrapped up the chat with Tony Cotman this morning, some good info on 2012 car/aerokit/engines, track design (he's designing the new Edmonton course) and also some comments about rugby, check it all here

Great to hear he's involved with the design in Edmonton. I was impressed with his work in Brazil.

Also interested in this exchange. I didn't realize teams would be able to create Frankenstein aero-kits, but that's how I interpret this:

          Sunday January 30, 2011 10:05 Jake
"will teams be allowed to use parts from both their allotted aero kits (Dallara sidepods with Lotus wings)? "

10:06 Tony Cotman: "To build their initial kit, yes. Once homologated you can't mix kits "

Now this is interesting...I must of skipped it reading the chat over at 4 AM. :P

What I imagine is a transparent bin filled with all these parts from various areo kit makers and watching guys like Penske, Andretti, and Chip picking through the parts and fitting them on their toy Indycars. LOL....

This doesn't make no sense at all! I believe the rumors are that all three engine manufacturers are also making aero kits plus Dallara. Now why would any of them want to share aero kits with one another? That doesn't make sense technologically or financially for anyone.

Good point. Not only that, but what would one call such a Franken-car? The main reason for an engine manufacturer to build an aero-kit would be to put their name on the chassis. But, if someone's running Lotus rear wing and engine cowling with Chevy sidepods, which seems like it'd be legal based on Mr. Cotman's reply......what IS that?

My guess: while Cotman/INDYCAR may allow such a thing, the aero-kit suppliers won't. I can see Chevy saying, "If you want to run any of our aero pieces, you've got to run them all."
