  • Indycar 2012

Good morning everyone. This morning, leafing through the sites on the prototypes for inspiration, I found myself in front of the prototype Fioravanti. Fioravanti is a small design studio in Turin (Italy). For years he worked for Fiat and other carmakers. In 2009 he produced this wonderful prototype for F1 in 2012. But the similarity with the prototype for the IndyCar Dallara in 2010 is embarrassing. What do you think?

Wow, that's almost too close to be a coincidence... makes a person wonder.

The general concept is certainly similar, but the Fioravanti has quite a few differences. Importantly, the driver protection looks much better on the Fioravanti. There is more body surrounding the driver who is positioned further back from the front wheels than on the Dallara concept. (Is there any room for the engine?) The air flow around the sidepods has less of an abrupt change in direction. Of course only the wind tunnel would determine the winner there. The Dallara provides full access to the front axles, uprights and A-arms.

How do we know the same guy didn't do both designs?

Great catch! For me, this means we are headed in the right direction. I like our version better though

I think the guidelines are identical. The prototype Fioravanti is more extreme is linked to the fact that it is not drawn up regulations imposed. it is likely that the designer is the same, but I think a bit 'more originality would not hurt. I say this without being able to imagine what they are planning new Lotus and other manufacturers, without having seen the new Dallara cell.

I don't think the Dallara version was drawn under any regulations, either. Personally I don't think the 2012 IndyCar is going to end up looking at all like either of those cars.
