  • Carb Day Concert 2011

Coming in for Carb Day this year. Shall we speculate on the band? Knowing I.M.S. and their penchant for etsablished safe bets, I'll guess ALICE IN CHAINS or SOUNDGARDEN. I would have added FOO FIGHTERS, but they'll be in Washington State that day.

Since 1911 is the year "Alexander's Ragtime Band" came out, I propose a presentation of some of that music. Maybe some Scott Joplin tunes. That would go over big with the party crowd!

I'd like to see Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers.

      As usual, please no Mellencamp.

"Woof, woof, woof". I doubt we'll see Alice in Chains. IMS tends to get groups that appeal to a wider age demographic that includes the baby boomer crowd like myself. Last year when this topic surfaced my stance was, and remains the same, the concert should be a vehicle to introduce Indy to younger generations, but yet be appealing to us older fans. Zac Brown is a group that would do just that. Jack Johnson, Jason Maraz, the list can go on and on.
        God speed!

Here we go again....waiting to see the list of everyone's favorite no name indie band that are darlings of Spin magazine but couldn't sell out the Vogue here...

Seriously, don't sleep on classic rock acts...the popularity of Rock Band/Guitar Hero re-introduced a lot of the younger generation to these groups and their sales have increased as a result. I'd love to see AC/DC for instance.
And Alice in Chains/Soundgarden aren't really established, safe bets. Both are 1990s relics that haven't been relevant in a long time. Chris Cornell (SGs lead singer) had a brief resurgence but I haven't heard from him lately...

But please, no Black Eyed Peas.....ugh!!! I think Carb Day is the only show they HAVEN'T played (Grammys, Golden Globes, every other awards show, Super Bowl)

I'll say it again. I think Sammy Hagar would be perfect for the carb day atmosphere. And he rocks.

I'm guessing Weezer, especially since they were a part of IZOD's new commercial.

Love to see Kings of Leon though........

Chili Peppers would be the all around best though given the varying ages at Carb Day

Any of those would work for me. Despite my age I'm still very much a heavy-metal/nu-metal music fan and would love to see any of the bands mentioned in the thread so far. To expand on the list I would add KoRn, Nickelback, Shinedown or Muse. However almost all are unlikely due to a lack of appeal to a wide and ranging demographic.

I agree that Weezer given there IZOD IndyCar commercial participation might be the leading candidate. I would like to see a band be part of the pre-race ceremonies as 'Three Doors Down' were a few years back. I liked the extended instrumental-only version of 'Kryptonite' they did during the driver introductions.

I think Kings of Leon would be a perfect fit, but your Weezer comment is a good point.

The Black Crowes played maybe 6 or 7 years ago, I like them but would like to see someone different.

If they chose the Alice in Chains or Soundgarden route, I guarantee the crowd would be huge. Some baby boomers may not like them, but those bands are still hugely popular with those 45 and younger. They have more name recognition than 99% of other bands.

                    No country acts, please.

Hey, I'm 46 and still love those bands and that type of music! Yeah I know, I'm the exception to the rule...in more ways than one!

I agree whole-heartedly with the 'no country acts'.

Well, my preference would be two men who love racing and guitars, Knopfler and Clapton... but since that won't happen.

Why not Indiana's favorite son, John Mellencamp. Carb Day is more for the locals than the out-of-towners, so just bring in Mellencamp and be done with it.
