  • Denver Street Circuit?

Denver Street Circuit? I liked this circuit. I mean the only reason it stopped was because of the DNC. I mean thats the only reason I heard. It's a good track. Always seemed well attended. I put a pin mark on Google Earth where the IICS has races, and there is a huge whole in the mid-west. This atleast fills it in somewhat.

Denver is in the Midwest? I'm outta the States for a few years and cities just up and move, apparently... ;-)

I thought the reason the race stopped was because CCWS is no more.

Sorry Mid-west was the wrong phrase. It's just past the plains in the Rockys. No it stopped because of scheduling conflicts in the 2007 season. They tried to get it back on the schedule (before unification was announced), but the DNC was in the Pepsi center, which the circuit runs around. Then it just got left out of the picture after that along with Houston, Clevland, Laguna Seca, Portland, Road America, and Mexico City.

It was funded by Centrix for a few years, but they bailed and it became unmanageable. Like the 1990-91 CART circuit, didn't draw enough interest or fans. It was removed because they said Road America had to move into its slot, but in reality they were tired of it losing money.

My sister worked for Centrix at the time. I went to the race with my family and really enjoyed it. Unfortunately, Centrix didn't just bail they went belly up and the race followed.
You can be a critical fan without being a Critic... Or can you? Quit your b'tchn and enjoy the racing :D

I would take a race like this one

How long was the thread concerning that ugly start, wow.

It stopped because it was bleeding money, was a "CCWS House Event" and had little corporate support the last year they ran it in 2006. Was a terrific track, though!

It was OK. PPIR was, IMO a better venue. Alas, both are history.

Other than the "Terrific Track", this explains it in a nutshell.

I attended the race the second year . I travelled extensively around the Denver area the week before the event and this is what I found:
                      • NOBODY understood what CCWS was
                      • Some people thought NASCAR was in town
                      • Some people thought DANICA was coming to town (I dashed their dreams when I told them Danica didn't race in the series)
                      • The venue was a ghost town on Friday and Saturday and had maybe 20K butts on Race Day.
Most of the racers I talked with in the paddock hated the course, and IMHO the fans had pretty poor sightlines.

Other than that, I can't imagine why there isn't a race there anymore

I've been to all of the Denver races.. and Danica was there!! got my pic with her.. she was in Rahal's atlantic car, and everyone thought she was a rising star..
and as far as the Nascar comments.. I still hear that everyware Indycar goes.

OOPS, my mistake. I was there in 2005, not 2003 so I was there for their 4th race, and Danica was not present.
