Tim Ferriss (author of The 4-Hour Workweek) is giving away 3 Indy 500 VIP packages to people that buy 1,000 copies of his new book The 4-Hour Body at $16 each.

    You'll get:

    - Limited edition wine (1 bottle), signed by founders of Twitter (Priceless)
    - 1-hour group Q&A conference call with Tim (Priceless)
    - 1-year of Performance Menu Journal’ Magazine ($360)
    - Digital copy of The 4-Hour Workweek’ ($20)
    - Slow-Carb Cookbook ($20)

Total value: Priceless (for $16,000 of books)

    4-Hour Body Giveaway

However, if in these tough economic times you'd feel better about spending half of that amount ($8,000), I can offer you this:

    - Ticket to the Indy 500 with VIP access to the Turn 3 infield. 14x14x14 cooler filled with your favorite beverages PLUS a box lunch. Lap around the track in my car on Community Day. Autographed items (not saying what or by whom). Roundtrip economy airfare (what the heck).

    - Unlimited Andretti Whine.

    - 1-hour group conference call Q&A with the founder of IndyCar Buzz.

    - 1 year of back issues for IndyCar magazine.

    - Digital copy of the public domain classic 500 Miles to Go.

    - 1 copy of the Pork Tenderloin Cookbook.

    - No need to store or distribute 1,000 copies of some book.

    Total value: Also Priceless!

At least the giveaway is for something cool like the Indy 500 and not that other big 500-mile race! Kudos for that I suppose.

I enter sweepstakes, as you know. There are always a lot of sweeps for vacation packages. Las Vegas, New York, Los Angeles, etc. Usualy they run from $2,000 to $5,000. But, when there is a sweeps for the Super Bowl, things get out of hand. The prize values go to $10,000 to $20,000.

You forgot to mention accommodations and transport to and from the track. Those should be included in your reasonably fair asking price of 8k, imho of course.
