  • A second race in Brazil?

    from twittervile:

    IndyCarGarage

RT @AllenWedge: While we're feasting on turkey, seems IndyCar's Terry Angstadt has been working on a 2nd Brazil race in Porto Alegre!

For 2011? It does make some sense to have 2 races there for one trip. And they were talking about just that when they announced going there last year.

Just google earthed it and only thing close looks to be a horse racing track so probably a street race.. And damn is it far south. I think it would involve putting them back on a plane.

Ok go to this on google earth, 29آ°49'25"S, 51آ°19'12"W This place looks alot more interesting on google earth than on their site. They also run the huge racing semi's there so it can't be small.

It had better be an oval or else. No more street parades, no more twisty turny things. OH gGAWD another races with red wall gimmick tires, we are heaidng down the road to CCWS/CART and that is just not acceptable.

Did I get all the usual rants in there? Someone had to say it.

If they want another race there, go for it. It makes more sense to have a second race there to help offset the cost of bringing the series there for just one race. While admittedly I am not the biggest street/road course fan, if the layout is proper the racing can be pretty good on one.

There is an oval there. But it is well tiny is an understatement. There is a twisty roadcourse that may work about 35 feet wide. Not sure about passing though is it is tight. There is a bigger track with very few turns using the dragstrip. On google earth it is under construction so it must be kinda new. After really looking at it not sure that place would work as is.

                    Velopark is a Kart track.
There were some street races in Porto Alegre back in the 40's-60's. Here are their layouts. They are quite big.

Ok this is what i get for not doing complete research first. While it is used for karting it is also big enough for cars. Here's an onboard video. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jhav1...eature=related

That one would be the new one based off the dragstrip. The other one must be the kart course.

I see three potential passing zones. Looks plenty racy enough for me!

If it's even half as exciting as Sao Paulo, then count me in.

This is the best overview shot I could find (I have the right track now, sorry).
