The 2011 IZOD INDYCar Series season kicks of in my backyard. The Honda Grand Prix of St. Petersburg will launch a year long centennial celebration and farewell tour for the current formula.

Can’t count the times on this board the uninformed or just plain mean spirited have tried to run this race down, but each year my home town race has gotten bigger and better. Since 2005 it has grown into the regions premier sporting event. Even last years deluge on race day could not dampen the spirits of fans and organizers.

If you don’t like street races…don’t watch and better yet…shut the hell up….thank you for your support…..

I look forward to St. Pete over Long Beach these days, it puts on a better race in my opinion.

I've never heard an ill word of the event from anyone who's been there. 2010 stunk thanks to the rain, but it's a great event.

As a former resident of St. Pete, I'm a bit biased. But I've always felt it's one of the better races on the schedule. I think most of the those who dis it, are mostly the ovals-only type. The fact that it out-draws almost every oval on the schedule seems to bother them.

I think it's just the anti-street or any kind of road racing folks. They complain about every non-oval there is. It's produced a wild race nearly every year. Just the last three have been great. 2008 Graham concludes a crazy race in partial-wet by holding of Helio for his first win, 2009 Briscoe has an epic duel with Justin Wilson, driving for Dale Coyne, and this year it went back and forth with Briscoe dumping it in the tires and Power winning.

ahhhh quit being so whiney...... my stance on oval vs twisties is well documented.. but after having my arm twisted tightly last year, i watched on tv. if i remember i gave it a thumbs up, i'm not spending the time to search that; it's out there on the www.
