Total fantasy here, but it beats the p&m political threads. I kinda hope that both Penske and Ganassi end up with the Chevy.

    Chevy Ilmor: Penske, Ganassi, Panther

    Honda: Andretti, de Ferran, D&R

    Lotus Cosworth: KV, Conquest, Coyne

    Ford Cosworth: Foyt, Newman-Haas

    Alfa Fiat: ???

Sarah Fisher would probably go with Honda?

Ford Cosworth: Foyt; Roush Fisher Racing

Fiat: Panther; Evernham; D&R (already Maserati dealer)

    Honda: Andretti
Danica's 2012 Nascar deal will complicate AA's options. Honda and Chevy won't want to share her if they're both in OW.

I could see Ganassi using the Alfa Romeo. I think there's too much pride to use the Penske-associated Ilmor engine and EGR is somewhat separated from TCGR (hence no Chevrolet engines in Grand-Am). So why Alfa? Well, if we assume Cosworth is building it, Cosworth connects to K, K connects to V, V connects to Ganassi (former driver, KV partnered with Ganassi in 2008 during the transition to IndyCar). Plus, there's talk of a Williams aerokit. Ganassi and Williams have done some driver sharing with each other a bit (Zanardi for Montoya, then sent Montoya back, and then Dixon tested). And we may see Rahal at Ganassi; he's a marketable American for a car company looking to get re-established in America, and it would probably feel nice for Alfa to succeed with a Rahal after the last go.

So, using pure speculation and assumption, I've got Ganassi using the Alfa that may or may not race.

        Excellent point on Danica.

Also regarding Ford and Cosworth. I wonder if Ford were to get involved if they'd run the program in-house or maybe use Roush instead of Cosworth?

Is Evernham rumored to be interested in Indycar?

He was dropping hints about 2011, presumably because he and everyone else in Charlotte can smell some money in 2012 that needs a new pocket, and they're running short of work for their own people.

Evernham seems like a likely beard for Hendrick; I don't think Hendrick would put his own name on a program that isn't GM. Penske is going to be top dog at Chevy.

Note: this thread pretty much becomes crap after the first mention of Erin Crocker.

I don't know Ford's actual position, but I'll bet they'd rather do it with contractors and write a check from the marketing budget. So either Roush or Cosworth.

                Ford don't own Cosworth anymore.

Have I missed something??? I thought Ganassi announced this past week they are going with Chevy in 2012??? When did Alfa Romeo come into the picture??? The release stated that Ganassi had been close to doing a deal with Ford for NASCAR but Chevy agreed to build an engine for Indycar. So Ganassi agreed to a deal with them on both sides of the fence. Is the deal off suddenly? And if so, why?

Ganassi is not involved in the Chevy IndyCar program. The NASCAR deal is stand alone.

That could change, but its not set in stone.

Ok, now that I think about it, it was posted here with a link to a Curt Cavin release, which translates to nothing really. Just another Cavin farce. I stand corrected

Its hard to say what Ganassi is going to do. If we have two builders, he has to choose between an Ilmor (Penske) engine that puts him on par with Penske and is the same make as he runs in Cup, or Honda a partner of his in CART and IndyCar for a long time and most of his success.

FIAT is doing a marketing dist deal with Chysler, sell this gorgeous Alfa coupe at select dealers:

FIAT is going to contract with Cosworth to enter an Alfa V-6 in the ICS.

Not another Cavin Farce. You just haven't kept up on the news. Cavin reported what everyone else reported which is the rumor from AutoExtremist. Turns out the rumor GM is coming to IndyCars was correct just the Ganassi part was wrong. Penske was the one who brought Chevy to the series. The other rumor is Alfa badging the Cosworth.
