Isn't there a hotel within the grounds of the street course Indycar races on?
    Thanks Downforce!

Is any of this surprising. Brazil is one of the most violent country in the world. The gap between rich and poor in that country is like it is in India nearly.

Wow, just wow! How long will Bernie let this 'hole stay on the calender? Last straw anyone?

World champion Jenson Button escaped unharmed from an attempted armed robbery on Saturday night after assailants made an approach on his car as he left the Interlagos circuit

It's the same every year there. If you go race and drive around in your fancy roadcars in the favela's you know you're an obvious target. IndyCars don't race anywhere near there and nothing happened this year, so no reason to increase security.

The article indicated Button was not riding around in a flashy personal car, but rather an reinforced armored-type car driven by police. Times are so dire in Brazil, the have-nots will attack anything for any bit they can get.

He was riding in a Mercedes-Benz B-klasse, that's pretty flashy in a favela.

I thought Brazil was doing quite well, even through the recession?

Pretty much a two class society. Have and have not. The lower class doesn't fare all that well.

I hope Interlagos NEVER leaves the schedule! If security outside the track is bad hire more bodyguards and ones with guns!

This is too good a track to run away from because of one incident.

I am going to shed my voice_or_reason here for just a second. As long as that troll Bernie gets his millions he will race anywhere in the world. Hell, if there was a Gran Prix in Kabul, or a Gran Prix in Islamabad he'd race there. He doesn't care about anything else except money.

Sorry for the rant but Bernie has driven F1 into the sad state it is now.

Bernie transformed F1 undoubtedly, many things for the better of the sport. However I agree that of late he's made F1 a money-w_h_o_r_e holding longtime original venues at ransom over newer ones only for the sake of the all mighty dollar (Euro, Pound ?). IMO events at China, Abu Dhabi & Bahrain arguably have decent courses but the races are held by those countries only to promote themselves, they care little about F1 and it's history. It's all about money not tradition for Bernie, a slap in the face to it's European roots.

Brazil has extremely restrictive gun laws. I believe it's illegal for private citizens to own them for the most part, including security. Even if they do allow them, it would probably be like Mexico where private security has .380 glocks and the cartels have M4s and AKMs.

I do believe there is atleast one hotel right there where everyone stays. Still that being said it's great to be hearing about such things.
