  • Maybe OT, maybe not...F1: Lack Of Sponsorship Hurting Drivers’ 2011 Chances

    http://formula-one.speedtv.com/artic...-2011-chances/

"Unfortunately at the moment in F1," Heidfeld said on Thursday, "it's not solely about how you drive the car and what you can bring in terms of talent, speed and engineering skills.

"I don't have backing like some others," he lamented.
Ridebuyers in F1? Surely not at this pinnacle of the sport, doesn't this only happen in IndyCar?

I'm thinking Heidfeld's "backing" could more then suffice in the ICS.

Obviously Nick hasn't been to TF where the experts would have told him the "proper" way to become an open-wheel formula-car driver in the modern times...

With the IICS schedule what it is now and the lack of sponsorship for so many teams it's not a stretch to imagine a few F-1 drivers who don't have the cash on hand for even a back of the pack F-1 ride to take what they have for a year or two here. Do a year or two here while his people work on lining up other sponsors and the economy in some sectors makes some gains. Depending on the sponsor a driver has two Canadian races, Brazil and Japan plus the 500, LBGP might match their objectives.

          "They're criminals"
