  • NDYCAR: Miller’s Mailbag 10.7 + several YouTube races for the offseason

Q: I sorta wished Milka Duno would have taken Franchitti out with her spin for two reasons:

    1) Will Power having a Cinderella season. He only had a part time drive a couple of years ago, but he said the right things ("I'd rather drive part time for Penske than full time for the other teams") and he did the right things (won races). Then he came back from what could have been a career-ending accident. A feel good story.

    2) In what was a semi-weird announcement, tire manufacturer and marketer TBC (Big O Tires, National Tire Warehouse, etc.) announced they will sponsor Rahal for the whole 2011 season and beyond. What was weird is they don't have a team. With sponsorship in hand, Rahal can shop for a competitive ride. Rumors have it that Chip Ganassi is looking to expand from two to three cars (like Penske) and that would be the hot ticket. But Rahal-Letterman or Panther Racing are teams that could run up front with a proper budget. Who do you think might be?

    3) I thought Danica's interview of Randy Bernard (done at Motegi) was very well done. She has always been an interesting interview, now we see she can be an interesting interviewer as well.

    Chad R. Larson, Phoenix

RM: Will had a helluva season and Dario made a helluva comeback and I guess all a racing series can ever hope for is the title to come down to the last race (without fabricating a playoff). As for young Rahal, it would be great for him and IndyCar to go with Ganassi but if that doesn't happen I imagine Andretti, KV or Rahal/Letterman could be in the frame....

Quite a number of zingers thrown at Panther. They want Justin Wilson for 2011, but both Wheldon and Vitor have had trouble getting paid by Paul Gentilozzi....oops, I mean John Barnes.

Great news though that Milka could be off to ARCA next year!!!!

Shocker: Miller can use You Tube???
"If your car was a dog, then you had to figure it out and test your own limits. And we didn't go to a wind tunnel – we did it in the first turn at Indianapolis."

Chad's question has to me one of the most moronic things I have read in a while. What are the 2 reasons? I see 3 points, only 1 of which involve the Championship/Franchitti/Power.

Sadder still is that RM published and spoke to it.

"I guess all a racing series can ever hope for is the title to come down to the last race (without fabricating a playoff)."

"Do I wish there was more rivalries? More hate? Damn straight but at least the competition is pure."
Check it out -- Robin's actually being almost positive. This is definitely something we can tout about the IICS to friends who are fans of other forms of racing: at least the competition isn't fabricated (with the possible exception of 15-lap yellows that are clearly being artificially extended for one competitor's benefit, but let's look the other way on that point ).
