  • Are we going to start seeing...?

Are we going to see teams start gearing marketing and financial strategy to putting drivers in cars for

    a) AJ Foyt Oval Championship

    b) Mario Andretti RC / SC Championship

I was wondering if teams were going to start finding sponsorship programs just for 1 championship. It makes sense.

If Panther were to enter Ed Carpenter in the 9 Oval Races (Including 2 at Texas)?
If Conquest were to run :::insert driver here:::: in the 9 RC / SC Races?

Also: It should be noted that if a driver wins both championships, they should be entitled to a BONUS!

I dont' really care for the multiple trophy thing...feels like little kid soccer where everyone gets a trophy

And the award for the female from another country that finished the most laps behind....Milka Duno
...and the award for the female from another country that had the most upside without finishing in the top 10 all year....Simona
...and the award for the male from another country that crashed the most cars without hurting anyone else....Sato
....and the award for the male from a South American country that crashed the most cars without hurting anyone else....Moraes in a close decision over Viso

How about we just give a naked man on a unicycle to EVERYONE that competed!!

The only driver I see doing this is Edd Carpenter for the oval championship. It's a great idea

Only two titles matter each year in the ICS: Indy 500 winner and Series Champion. All the rest is background noise.

That's what I was thinking. But there are probably a couple of guys out there who would work for a road-only program.

Eh, who knows. It's fun to speculate.

youll see teams enter whatever pays the bills. if a sponsor wants you to race at road course X then you show up at that track or whatever the case may be

The separate championships would have to pay enough to make it worth while. Until then, it's a pointless conversation.

It's one of the reasons why I don't like these two new trophies. It continues to divide the sport and what you are suggesting is entirely plausible and only further divides things.

Having 4-6 drivers in a car the entire season for 1 team is dividing the sport, i guess i dont see anything wrong with the best plausible drivers in each race...

Among a long long list of things that are wrong with this series and need to be corrected, one of the biggest hurdles in my opinion is overcoming the divided fan base and bringing fans back together. The division amongst CART/Champ Car and Indy Car fans continues to exist and is perpetuated through the belief that CART/Champ Car is represented by street and road racing and Indy Car is represented by the ovals. Creating these two new titles continues this representation as it is about ovals versus road/streets as opposed to a larger and greater focus on the whole sum which is what made Indy Car racing so strong in the early nineties.

If I am understanding what you are suggesting which is lets say, bring Bourdais in and only run him on the road and streets and bring say, I don't know, Hornish, and only run him on the ovals. It just continues to strengthen that divide. When what you need is to do away with this one side versus the other side and bring everybody back together as one.

Don't think there is a problem? You don't need to look any further then the stands in Homestead to see that there is.

                          So you would rather see:

A Non-competitive Ed Carpenter at St. Pete vs. Graham Rahal not competing
A Non-competitive Milka Duno at Indianapolis vs. ANYONE not competing

The two trophies are basically teed up for Panther to chase.

Put Ed Carpenter in the car for the ovals with Fuzzy's as the primary and Herbalife as a strong secondary.
Put Townsend Bell in the car for the road races with Herbalife as the primary and Fuzzy's as a strong secondary.
Both of them run the 500 with their respective liveries.

Neither one will be a threat for the overall championship, but each could sell their sponsor on chasing one of the discipline trophies.

The point of the trophies is (I think) to encourage a sponsor like Fuzzy's or Dollar General who are in for a few races to bump up their participation without making the next step be a full-season effort that they might not be willing to make.
