  • We now know why TK fought so hard!

I wondered why TK pushed so hard to keep Danica, who had plenty of fuel and new tires, from taking second place last race.
It was pretty obvoius that Danica had a better chance to catch Dixie.

I think that TK knew he was not comming back next year and needed:
    A) to put on a show for next years potential owners.
    B) to keep Danica, with whom he has had run ins this year, from finishing with a win.
    C) to keep Andretti Motor Sports from a potential win.

I think it was payback time.
    What do you think?

I doubt any potential sponsor/team boss would change their minds on him because he came 2nd or 3rd in a race. He has the 2004 championship and many wins on his resume for them to look at...

He was racing Danica so bloody hard cause he wanted to finish SECOND and not THIRD!!!

He was racing so hard because he didn't want to get beat by a girl! Especially one he had criticized in the past.

I keep reading how Danica had new tires, and was only one who 'had anything' for Dixon.

And yet, she couldn't get around the second place car until the very end.

I didn't see Kanaan block her, or run her up to the wall, or force her down into the grass. He simply held his line and kept his foot in it. He raced for the position just like she raced for the position.

It didn't look to me like either of them was working over time. They were both going as fast as their cars would go...and it looked to me like they were pretty evenly matched. Neither was doing anything extraordinary to get away from the other....which might have risked crashing or getting too far behind to catch up.

I saw it as simple racing...good, clean, professional behavior from both of them. If she had a bone, or he had a complaint, i don't see any basis for it.

Tony is 36 or 37....he has lots of years left to race...and even if 7-11 has pulled out and AA has dumped Tony, he will find a quality ride. It was importsant for him to finish a dismal year with the best finish possible, but if he wasn't trying to do that, i would have a problem. Otherwise, i just see his performance yesterday as racing...which is what he gets paid to do.

I got the impression TK was informed of the 7-11 situation post race - anybody know for sure?

Not quite 100% in agreement with that ( no flagrant blocks or chops by TK but a lot of moving around), but the rest of the post is spot on.

I would imagine he had some clue prior to Homestead, perhaps even mid-season.

probably about the time of this announcement:

There is a Sunoco Fuel Convenience Store (+ Gas Station) by my house and about as many people go through there as there were people in Turn 2 at Homestead...

You know there's about a 75% chance he will be right back with AA next year, right?

He might be back but the 7-11 will be on the 7....
