  • IICS version of team orders

    Well kinda.

If Will Power needs Helio Castroneves' help winning the Izod IndyCar Series championship, the Brazilian will give it to him.

The scenarios by which that help could be necessary are numerous as Power leads Dario Franchitti by 12 points entering the Oct. 2 season finale at Homestead-Miami Speedway.

But his Team Penske teammate said he will yield a position to Power if that helps the Aussie's cause.

    "Yes, I will," Castroneves said.

Luckily for Castroneves, giving up a race win shouldn't be necessary because if Power is in second place, he'll be ahead of Franchitti. But if Franchitti wins the race, Power would need to finish second to have a chance to win the title. The winner gets 50 points, with second place worth 40 and third place 35.

Franchitti, who has won two series titles, could win this one no matter what Power does by earning the pole (one bonus point) and leading the most laps in the race (two points).

Power is seeking his first IndyCar championship. Castroneves is a three-time Indianapolis 500 champion but also has yet to win a season title.
